Pixar movies are known for many things, such as their revolutionary animation, their famous characters, and their tried and tested story structure. But what I’ve always been most fascinated about are the life lessons embedded in each film. In today’s Pixar video essay, in honour of the release of Soul, we’re going to talk about the most important lesson from each Pixar movie. Join me on this wholesome ride through the works of one of the world’s most imaginative animation studios.

Films covered in this video: Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monster’s Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up, Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Brave, Monsters University, , Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, Cars 3, Coco, Incredibles 2, Toy Story 4, Onward, Soul

What are YOUR favourite Pixar movies and what are some of the lessons you've learnt from them? Let me know!

I’m shocked you put Soul in there as it was just released yesterday and if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s good. 10/10 recommend it.

For me Pixar’s best films are about accepting change and appreciating life and people around you. I love Pixar’s films better than Disney films because in more ways than one Pixar wants to tell us what most of us forget as adults like learning to let go among other things. I recommend any Pixar film I know people hate Cars 2 and The Good Dinosaur but I don’t find them terrible.

Toy Story 2 I feel wasn't about temptations of momentary fame, but "It's better to live a temporary life filled with love than to live a permanent one without any love at all."
and Monsters University which was "Just because you want something and work hard at it doesn't mean it'll come true, but there may be another path you haven't thought of where you can still shine."

Monsters university teach me that in life sometimes you cannot achieve your dreams, and thats okay, just like Mike Wazaowski, the fact that he's not scary and failed achieved his dreams.

I don't know why but for some reason I feel like crying while watching this video. And if possible, can you link the BGMs in this video? Thanks!!!!

I agree with all besides 3 themes.

I feel that the main theme to Monsters Inc. is don't always believe in what you are told.

In Finding Nemo, I felt more of a theme that taught us that you may not always be correct when approaching adversity.

The Incredibles taught me that it is ok to relive your past when it comes back up to you.

There have been a couple of films since this video came out (Luca and Turning Red).

Luca taught me that you have to accept yourself for who you are and to not be afraid to open up.

Turning Red taught me that although listening to your parents may be best for you, it is ok to honor yourself for your own decisions.

2 rather common tropes Pixar uses are 'humble pie' and 'reality check'...often achieved through a 'hero's journey'.
My take-away from Monsters University was that: no matter how hard you try, sometimes your best just isn't enough.

The lesson Cars 2 should have taught us was to get out of your comfort zone. We see Lighting McQueen race on tracks different from your basic NASCAR track, it would have been great to see him struggle at first but get better by the end. Huge missed opportunity right there

The most important pixar lesson is the one from Inside out in my opinion.

My dad told me that the lesson for finding Nemo is to listen to your parents or something bad will hapen like Nemo. If he listened, he would not get kidnapped. I never got that as a child and belive it's something very different, but can't fuigure what. Sheltering your kids or baby them and not trusting them at all will lead to your kids to maybe disobey to prove themselves and the outcome isn't always too good. So yeah, took the words right out of my mouth.

The message for Cars 2 is that you shouldn’t make a movie about comic reliefs the whole time
