Innovation stories: The power of real time data in journalism

It’s increasingly challenging for news outlets to identify important and impactful stories before they go viral. The Listening Center’s Trend Recognition Module gives journalists real time tools to recognise and own breaking stories.

The Listening Center’s Trend Recognition Module uses social listening to keep track of 400 million data sources across digital platforms. This allows journalists to gauge how impactful a developing story could be. With support from the DNI Fund the team was able further to develop the module, especially in terms of being able to predict viral stories.
