How to Use IF Function in Excel

In this Excel Function Explained video series, I will Demonstrate, how to use IF function in excel. It’s a logical function and it helps to insert logical calculations into excel. Using IF function, you’ll be able to Check if a condition is true or false, if true you can do certain things and if false you can do different things.
I can clear the if function with an example. Suppose you are creating a basic grade sheet where students who got less than 40 fails and the rest passes. Now this situation requires if function. If you apply the function here it will check if a student got less than 40, then it will display fail and if not, it will display pass.
Let’s learn how to use IF formula in excel.
The Function looks like this = IF (Logical Test, Value If True, Value If False)
The IF function has only three arguments or parameters.
1. Logical Test: This is where you write the conditions you need to check. You can use mathematical operators here. You can also use other functions here. What ever you insert here excel will check if that is true or false.
3. Value If False: This works just like the value if true but it only kicks in when your given condition doesn’t meet. Again, you can return any value you want and you can specify that in this parameter.
This is how we use IF function in excel. Remember, using IF function in excel you actually tell excel formula to check if a condition is true or false, if true it will return a predefined value, if false it will return different value which is also pre-defined.
