Game of Thrones (7x07) - Jon Snow Speaks The Truth (Why He Deserves To Be King)

"When enough people make false promises, words stop meaning anything."

In this clip from the Season 7 finale "The Dragon and the Wolf", Jon Snow shows the wisdom of a just ruler, which is hard to come by these days. But while there is virtue in honor, it also has its limitations.

I love how the ghost of Ned Stark still looms large over the story seven season later.

Such an amazing and true line from Jon "When enough people make false promises, words stop meaning anything. Then there are no more answers, only better and better lies."

This is why Jon is the right person to sit on the Iron Throne.

The moment you hear Jon say “I’m not going to swear an oath I can’t uphold” is the moment you realize he is a total bad ass team Jon all day

This is why, after all of the awfulness of the series. Jon shows he's Ned Starks son despite being his nephew. He is honorable and honest to a fault, even if he knows it will hurt the outcome and refuses to lie to someone unless it is literally life or dearh(when he did to the Wildlings, and even then its a half lie). Hes honestly more of Ned son than anyone his full blood children and hands down the best Stark in the entire franchise.

The king in the north indeed.

Probably the best line in all of Game of Thrones

it's a fool's errand but John does speak the truth. "when enough people make false promises, words stop meaning anything. and there are no more answers, only better and better lies."

I guarantee that’s exactly why queen Lannister asked him for that promise… She knew that if he made a promise to stay out of it loyalty and honor would compel him to uphold that promise No matter what

If Jon knew all his life and identity were precisely lies Ned has said to everyone...

Jon will forever be my favorite! When it comes to honor, he's the epitome of that.

Jon really is the best choice to be king because he doesn't want to be. He's a man of honor and discpline and he cares about his fellow men and women. He would insure the people lived good and just lives and he would make sure law and order were upheld and bastards were punished. I think Danny is similar in the same way, i hate what they did to her character towards the end of the series. I feel like her and jon were the best shot for westeros. However the largest weakness jon has is that honor and code he lives by, it makes him massively predictable, he would need someone to cover that weakness, like Tyrion. or Danny

I was hoping you included Tyrion's counterpoint lol

The Honorable Jon Snow, The King in the North

Interesting comments here. Jon Snow is what we want but, unfortunately, he was surrounded by cutthroats. His honesty got him the loyalty of the north but he had to betray the woman he loved. Jon can be stupid though. If he had kept his mouth shut and not told Sansa, perhaps Dany wouldn’t have gone on her rampage. Idk.
