The E55 was an actual monster of its time and never got thw recognition.

Im an ex Mercedes technician and the first AMG I drove was an E55 and I was blown away with its straight line performance on kickdown from 60+mph the speedo needle never looked like stopping.

When i drove a W211 E63 for the first time i was so disappointed from 0-70mph it felt rapid and the noise was incredible but after 70mph it felt slow compared to the old E55 the torque that thing had was insane.

55 is beter. Its no problem for engine (M113K) and gearbox to get 650HP and 1000Nm.
Too bad the gearbox doesn't have 6 gears.
