Anything over 6" with a hand auger with semi dull blades sure kills your day after your pooring sweat!

i bought a "6" ice auger on market place for 40 bucks delivered, got it today and it turned out to be an 8inch auger.. i was kinda happy at first cuz wohoo i got a larger ice auger than i thought i was getting, and then we got to the ice with it, i now wish it would've been the 6" instead hahaha.. very good size hole for pike and zander though.

I’m 41 now but when I was younger I was a hand auger drilling machine. I can still get after it but I guess I’m smarter now. When I was a kid my dad used to make us drill all the holes with a hand auger, you learned to get good and fast. Nils hand augers can do some serious work. I still keep a collapsible 4” nils in my shack to send the kids out with.
Me “Hey go drill me 6 holes over there”
Kids “ok dad got em, when we gonna set up some lines?”
“Oh nice work, oh suuure we’ll set some up”
One things for sure they are quiet on the ride in.

I got a 6" and a 4 " hand auger and I'd say they are both pretty slick I haven't had any issues and up to 16" of ice

Go get a Home Depot card. They will give you interest free purchase for 12 months. Buy rigid drill with larger batteries. Then just get $30 adaptor. Done and easy on expenditures.

those blades are probably really dull. I seen ya do a cpl no-no's. I always cringed when my buddies asked to drill holes. those edges are very temperamental, hook that puppy up to a brushless drill!

if you have a decent torque drill on hand you can buy a used clam plate for around 60-80 bucks and hook up your drill to that, it wont be the best but its better then manual

It's called MANual for a reason. Manual all the way!

Most of the new manual augers you can buy a drill attachment from strike master for 20 and bucks make it a drill auger.

I had a old manual one so i couldnt so i finally gave up and getting a K-drill or pistol bit cant stand drilling multiple holes in a foot of ice

Lol classic :p just got my clam plate this year and it’s been amazing once the ice gets thicker than 7 or 8 inches, so worth it to drill like 6 holes and not die :p

Is it a better idea to get the gas/ electric one instead? 😂

This is why I would probably never buy a hand auger larger than 6"
