My favourite boards to work on, unfortunately this one is liquid damaged and has been for a while, which sadly leads to an unsuccessful repair at the end of it all but reveals to us a very pretty show of artwork.

My new method for consuming content on YouTube is to find the least inflammatory simultaneously mesmerizing content and allow it to capture my attention while not subconsciously propagandizing me, sort of like what watching American baseball used to be like prior to the sport being overrun by wokeness. The excellent highly technical work that Paul shares on his channel provides just this type of therapeutic content.

Thank you Paul.

Best,

N ~

I could be wrong, but I think you're mixing up conformal coating and solder mask. Note: I'm an electrical engineer, not electronics engineer, I generally deal with big things like motors and power distribution, not circuit boards.

My understanding is: Solder mask is the (traditionally green) coating applied over the PCB after traces and holes have been created and is used to aide in corrosion protection of traces and making machine soldering possible and hand soldering easier.

Conformal coating is a (traditionally clear) coating that is applied after soldering components on. It protects pads, leads, ICs, etc from corrosion, dust & debris shorts, etc. It's common for industrial electronics (PLCs, protection relays, etc.) to have conformal coating as a specification or option as harsh environments and wildlife (rodents, spiders, etc.) can damage expensive equipment and shutdown manufacturing plants resulting in $M losses.

From what I can see, Apple products do not use conformal coating, if they did, liquid damage would be less of a problem.

This motherboard needs lot of cleaning real bad - how long due you put them in the ultrasonic machine and how do you dry them off

Paul, have you ever tried to use one of the fiberglass pens for rubbing off conformal coatings etc.
I've it quicker and less likely to cut through traces ?

Hi Paul thanks for the great videos mate, I’m wanting to upgrade to the amscope trinocular. Must I order direct from them or is there an easier way. Keep up the great work mate!

Hello Paul what temp and air flow were you running your Quick at when you replaced the 32 QFNP at about 13 min in? Very hot and humid down here in Sydney the last week ( around 40C+ 80-90% RH for 5 days)
Cheers.

Just curious - didn't you check the cpu 1st instead of all that work - cleaning the board

Coffee (with cream and sugar) spilled on my MacBook Air at 11:30am and was brought to tech repair around 5:30pm the same day. Is it likely to survive? It shut itself down and wouldn’t turn back on at all which is why I took it to be repaired.
