Las Vegas bids farewell to the Tropicana hotel with celebration and implosion

The seconds ticked away early Wednesday morning until the husk of the Tropicana Las Vegas resort, deserted since its April 2024 closing date, met a final and spectacular end, bringing to a close the era of the 67-year-old structure once a bastion for visitors from across the country.

The Las Vegas classic came down in style with a seven-minute celebration involving 550 drones and 150 “pyrodrones” counting down to the controlled demolition of the resort originally erected in 1957.

You tear down an original OG casino for a baseball team that will probably change towns in 5 years. Smart thinking. What a disgrace to the history of the most shady of iconic towns. I'm glad I got to stay there a few years back. Yeah, it seemed dated but with nostalgia that was so enjoyable. I also noticed that they had the best odds on the strip, which is probably why they got targeted. The Tropicana was the Tropigalia of The Godfather II.
