The cuckoo is known to be a careless mother and to toss her eggs into the nests of other birds. But what happens to the chicks? Are they accepted by their new parents? Do the bird parents suspect that they are not their biological children? Do they care for their adopted babies? Judging by the cuckoo’s impressive numbers, they do just fine. They receive support from their non-biological parents. They also behave selfishly.

Eagle egg hatch:. "Mama?"
Hen: "Come here little one."

My dad placed a turkey egg in our duck nest along with her eggs while she was out eating. It hatched the same time as the ducklings and the mother duck took very good care of the turkey and the turkey tried very hard to obey mama. The only time there was trouble was when mom would push the ducklings into the pond to learn to swim (turkeys don’t swim) poor frustrated mom never gave up trying until he got bigger than her. The turkey followed her all over right along with his brothers and sisters. It was so fun to watch.

"...and they often accept other species' chicks"
Hen: *literally sits on puppy*

People admire the Eagle's pride as a species but the chicken's default programming of taking care of young as its own is hugely more admirable imo. Very well done, mama chicken.

That farmer didn’t realize he was causing problems in someone else’s marriage.

Eagle Dad: “Rachel, you been sleeping with someone behind my back?“

LOL Eagle was "Honey I SWEAR ON MY FUCKING LIFE, you're the only one"

Then the dad bounces, and the mama is left staring at this demonic abomination, going insane, realizing this THING is what she would usually eat but wondering why it came out of her and she has a midlife identity crisis, hoping that if she ignores it, this horrible abomination will go away.

*Chicken:* I'm gonna be a good adoptive parent

*Eagle:* Why do I have a deformed excuse of a patriotic bird child

I switched a puppy out for my neighbor’s newborn child. They noticed fairly quickly. I mean, they were definitely upset but, eventually they got over it and learned to love the puppy as their own.

Chicken: “Here you go sweetie, have some food, just don’t eat me, okay?”

Eagle: “Sure, you can stay. Just don’t expect me to feed you.”

Even if the parent eagle accept the stranger, the chick will not survive the YEET ritual 😂😂

I am amazed that the eagle was not fooled but I am very glad she didn’t kill it either!

There was a story about an eagle nest that was being monitored. One of the parents raided a hawk nest and brought back one of the hawk chicks as a meal for their kids. Unbeknownst to anyone, the hawk chick wasn't dead. The eagles seemed surprised and left it alone at first. As they brought the food in for their chicks, the hawk would grab pieces for itself and eventually flew. The researchers were really curious as to what would happen if the hawk survived its first year. Would it identify as an eagle or a hawk. Sadly it was never seen again.

The males are looking at their ladies.... “where have you been? You’re telling me someone snuck up to our nest and switched the eggs? I was born at night but not last night Linda!”
