Happy Birthday Stevie Nicks! Love you lots.

"Tusk" gave the band two Top40 hits, the eponymously named tribal dance song that peaked at #8 and the Stevie Nicks penned and performed "Sara" that went one better peaking at #7 in the fall and winter of 1979.

The original length of the song was nearly 16 minutes, but the album track was cut to 6:22 with the single version clocking in at 4:37, lengthy for a singles track but radio stations played the longer version quite often.

Nicks has stated the song was about her friend, Sara who went on to marry Mick Fleetwood. It was also the subject of a copyright complaint by a songwriter who had submitted a song called "Sara" to Warner Brothers in 1978. Stevie was able to produce evidence that she had written and recorded the track in July, 1978 before the complainants song was submitted to Warner. That cleared Nicks and her song, the case was dropped and no plagiarism had occurred.

The dreamy and glistening sound of "Sara" using brushes on the snare drum perfectly complimented Stevie's lyrics sung in a dreamy reverie. The song came about when Nicks was dating Don Henley and subsequently became pregnant with his child. In 1991 much to Stevie's consternation he confirmed that she had an abortion and writing the song was therapeutic for her. In 2014, Nicks confirmed Henley's claim and that the child would have been named Sara.

My name is Sara. I was born in 1984. My mother was very young. This was her favorite song given where her heart was at the time of conception and pregnancy. So she named me after this song. She sends it to me every birthday 🙏🏼. And she says, my personality and who I’ve been since I was little and now. I am the living embodiment of the meaning of this song.
So although my name is very common. I’ve always been proud of my name and where it comes from and the meaning behind it/ the song.

Wait a minute baby
Stay with me a while
Said you'd give me light
But you never told me about the fire
Drowning
In the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
But now it's gone
It doesn't matter what for
When you build your house
Then call me home
And he was just like
A great dark wing
Within the wings of a storm
I think I had met my match
He was singing
And undoing
And undoing
Ooh, the laces
Undoing the laces
Said Sara
You're the poet in my heart
Never change
Never stop
But now it's gone
It doesn't matter what for
But when you build your house
Oh, then call me home
Hold on
The night is coming
And the starling flew for days
I'd stay at home at night
All the time
I'd go anywhere
Anywhere, anywhere
Ask me and I'm there
Yeah
Ask me and I'm there
'Cause I care
In the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
But now it's gone
They say it doesn't matter anymore
If you build your house
Then please, call me home
Sara
You're the poet in my heart
Never change, and don't you ever stop
Now it's gone
No it doesn't matter anymore
When you build your house
I'll come by
There's a heartbeat
And it never really died (Ah)
Never really died (Sara, ah)
Would you swallow all your pride?
Would you swallow all your pride?
All I ever wanted

❤❤❤❤❤

These songs always turn out tricky here. Still, one of my most favorite songs ever, because it takes me somewhere I can't explain, but I know it exists in my mind.
