Checking The Hognose Snakes (Hognose Short)

"Why are they kept this way?"

Info: In the late Spring of 2022, some of my snakes were diagnosed with Coccidia, a highly contagious parasite that is fatal if left untreated. Along with medication, treatment requires a 100% sterile environment and intense deep cleaning every single day to avoid reinfection. When dealing with 13 snakes, it was taking me 6 hours every day to make sure their needs were met while also giving them their medication and keeping the tubs sterile. Any enrichment opitions would have made maintaining a quarantine environment impossible. Still, I wanted them to feel secure, hence the shredded paper. They have been coccidia free since October of 2022.

Checking on a few of the Western Hognose Snakes that I had to relocate to the basement for their own safety. Surprisingly less cranky today despite the colder temperature.

Beautiful animal.❤ If only reptiles were emotional, sentient and connecting like mammals and my lovely birds.
