I so appreciate you explaining exactly why you do things the way you do, what may happen if we don't. It helps me conceptualize the concepts. Thank you!

You give really good advice! I've been taping and finishing 20+years. And I've even learned a few different ways to do things from you. Keep up the good work brother

I’m not even a drywaller but I find the deep dive fascinating. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the great videos I got into drywall last year and made $10, 000. I've added the service to my painting business. I didn't know a thing really, besides a California patch
before I started watching your videos.

Just wanted to say thanks. As i repair/replace plaster and skim old wallpaper/imperfections, your videos have been a great resource for a DIYer.

I've been a carpenter (like @vancouvercarpenter) most of my adult life and a union carpenter for over 20 of those years. The company I work for ALWAYS orders USG Lightweight mud for EVERYTHING...and the painters that follow us say that our tapers are 100% top notch. I am not a fulltime taper, but that sounds like a really GREAT testimonial to the product quality.

Hey, USG Plus 3. That's the mud I use. ❤ I'm just a DIY'r, but now I'm feeling validated for my choice to buy this one. Thank you. 😊

Ive gone to the trouble of coating ceilings with light joint compound mud first coat and then light weight all purpose. But often its not enough that it needs a third go around. My father used blue for everything and never had an issue except maybe a handful of with tape bubble times. I don't think hexwas aware of the yellow/ green even. Red wasn't around. But they were so few id almost say it was the outliers of all the jobs that maybe we pushed to hard or the wall was glossy etc.
i understand yellow taping mud is stronger, more glue, meant for the purpose, but just saying no call backs from little doorknob repairs to whole houses for years and years
Which i say all this to support your advice Ben. I don't really need to waste my time using yellow tape- setting when blue all purpose or red is all i need to skim coat a ceiling.
Disclaimer: regardless of Dads work I use yellow tape setting 100% of the time taping lol

Subscribed and watching a lot of his videos now. I have popcorn ceilings with asbestos. Thousand$ for professional scraping.
Evaluating skim coating over adding another layer of sheetrock. After watching these videos I'll be making an informed decision.

Would it be appropriate to use a regular heavyweight all purpose to skim coat a previously painted wall, like in a bathroom where the paint has a satin sheen?

Thank you I'll use this to do my work. And you're quite handsome by the way.

Ben, LOVE your videos. I've watched a ton of them...really dig your explanations...I consider them teachings.
I have a large job (whole house) to skim ceilings. Would you recommend topping mud for majority of the house and then switch to the LWAPM (or maybe UltraLWAPM) for the final room(s)?

If you were going over the glossy finish, as you mentioned in your example, do you think it would be worth light sanding and 1 coat of primer prior to adding any light all-purpose? In my most recent application, i primed prior to mudding on top because i wanted to be thorough

Hey broski, how often do you find poc marks after skimming over painted walls or ceilings and how do you get rid of them? BTW, great stuff 👍

Is there a light all purpose sold at Home Depot or Lowe’s. I’m struggling to find one on the apps but they’re not the easiest
