I am impressed that someone figured this out.
I make boxes from hardware cloth (some people call it “wire mesh”). I fill them with rocks, stones, pebbles, lava rocks and then use as door stops, water diverters, etc.
To close mine up I lace them together with wire. Copper, aluminum, or stainless steel wire is good if you want to avoid the rust problem.

Thank goodness I found this video. I've been tearing my hair out trying to find wire baskets for my garage that weren't "decorative" but would fit between the studs and shelf supports. This means I don't have to spend lots of money for fussy stuff that I had to settle for.

Just what I needed! I'm redoing a dresser with a missing drawer, so now I can make a basket to fit. Thank you! I'm going to make a fabric liner with drawstring ties also. It will cover most of the wire edges.

Came across this video months ago and finally finished a spice rack using this technique. Thank you! Afterward I went over the edges with a hot glue gun to cover the wires that were poking up.

Great idea! I'll have to try it out sometime. I bet you could also make dividers in the baskets with the scraps for a more versatile office organizer.

You can use those yellow handle aviation snips for wire if you want- but cutting a lot over time will damage those snips. Actual wire cutters are designed for cutting round wire.

Oo add foam pads to protect surface and maybe stain a wood piece to fit inside. This is my goal haven’t tried it yet. I want to make some to hold towels so metal mesh needs to be sturdy enough and idk if what I need will be maleable enough to do this folding over trick.

Thanks for the great lifehack. One question: what's your hardware cloth's gauge (wire thickness)?
I want to buy one that isn't too malleable, but since nowadays the shopping is done through the internet, I can't feel it myself.
