Thanks so much for this video ! Just got my doubts about the mic settings for the best studio quality vocals… The bass roll off etc ..

This is perfect for my voice - I actually bought the SM7dB. Now I’m curious about mic-ing up instruments as condensers pick up too much environmental noise while recording at home. I’m going to experiment today!

I use the SM7B with an RME Babyface Pro FS, and the gain is usually set to 57-60dB. Would you still recommend using a Cloudlifter? I mainly use it for vocal recordings in music production.

Dan, where do I get the studio mic stand and the boom to get that high quality studio sound out of my Shure SM7b? What brand / model are they? Could you drop some links!? Thanks Dan the man!

Oh, Shure!
Hello, Dan. I purchased a Shure SM7B last July 2023. Prior to the purchase: I extensively researched the product; and nowhere, including here in your video, was I informed about the terrible hissing noises of the microphone. The hissing noises were not noticed during my first recording sessions, the first few days of delivery. Naturally, had I realized the problem, earlier, I would have immediately returned the product. Unfortunately, I missed the return date by three days. Now: after spending slightly less than seven hundred dollars for what Shure, Sweetwater and others advertise as a quality microphone, I must attempt to resolve the issue of noise; and if repairable, I must spend "more" money. My first microphone was the Shure PGA-27, a lot cheaper and without the hissing noises of the SM7B. I trusted Shure, Sweetwater, the research, and other sources; and then in good faith made the purchase. Obviously, I am extremely disappointed, and minus a large sum of money. Thank you, Shure, Sweetwater, and others for misleading me. I fell for the "HYPE"!

"I am 'not' happy!"

Sorry - confused here. I would need the Shure Motiv MVI device AND a cloud lifter for a PC connection? Also, does Motiv work on a phone without a mic connection, or is it just monitoring audio? Thanks.

getting so much background noise from this mic for some reason, cant seem to figure out why. I unfortunately record in an untreated room, but I was under the impression that this mic just naturally cuts out a lot of background noise

@shurecreators Thank you for responding to my commentary. I contacted and spoke with one of your Support Team Techs. He discussed the usual method of troubleshooting the signal path, and I appreciated his help; however, the SM7B is new, the Mogami cables are new, and the Apollo Twin X is new. The issue of hiss or static occurs only when I plug in the microphone (?). Therefore, and I am not a tech, I believe that the microphone is the problem. Naturally, perhaps the issue is the Interface. The SM7B is lowly sensitive, a 'quiet' mic, therefore, the Interface works harder to facilitate the signal path. Possibly, the stress placed on the Interface results in feedback, hiss, static, etc. Considering this difficulty, I must troubleshoot, and replace the Interface. Still: per the recommendation of the Support Tech I will troubleshoot the signal path. Doubtlessly, I will be left with definite results: 1. requesting a replacement microphone equal in price and quality, 2. selling the product on eBay, or 3. feeding the trash bin. Whatever the results: Shure has my money and I have frustrations. I am unable to continue my work.

Hi! What is the exact stand and adapter you are using at 1:30 to clip on the mic? Thanks

I did a pro recording using the same mic as the room acoustics were bad & we couldn't figure out how to turn off the heater. The recording came out great with no unpleasant noises recorded! I'm just curious how many folks use this in the studio to record pro level vocals.

Would a behringer umc202hd sound card do the trick instead of the cloud filter?

I must be doing something wrong. I have mine hooked into a cloud which is then plugged into a focusrite. On my old yeti mic I have hundreds of recordings of people reacting to my voice while gaming but I have not gotten a single one since upgrading to this setup. It's just to quiet if you have a deep and especially bassy voice (I've been told I sound roughly like Markiplier and even James Early Jones.) My stream has also stated it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as my old yeti. Any idea what could be going on with that?
Thanks so much I really want to like this setup and hope this is an issue with a resolution.

is the preamp on the Shure MVI pretty good for the SHure SM7b? I been using a Steinberg UR22C interface and DM1 Dynamite inline mic preamp, but would love to find an easier option

Being so close to the mic how do you handle the plosives?

@shurecreators "'528E' TO THE RESCUE !" I am more than happy to report that the "issue" is resolved. Firstly, I ordered a Triton Fethead and its delivery is tomorrow. Secondly, I remembered how well my old 528E Voice Processor (with a Downward Expander) processed my recordings. I live near a busy street not to mention the Airport- whose planes sometimes cause me brain death. I set up the 528E and the Apollo Twin X and then voila! I immediately noticed one thing, POWER! The SM7B responded! Next: Adjusting the 528E settings, and turning the Mic/Line Input to the maximum the signal was (almost) completely silent. The mic picked up a distant hum from the street work crew, nearby. However, no hiss, no static-NADA! The hum: I dropped an Accusonus Noise Remover on the vocal track. No problem. Now, my SM7B "is" a Shure thing. Happily, I may return to work!

HELP!!!! I bought an SM7B, Shure headphones, and a BOSS MK2 LOOP STATION. I can hear the "beat" thing (that gives you the beat) through the headphones, but can't hear my microphone - I don't have it on phantom power - and I'm just stuck. I heard I don't need an interface because the MK2 LOOPER is an interface. I've spent so much $$$$ and can't even make one stupid beat yet!! I've been on YT for two weeks trying to figure out how to use the microphone!!! HELP!!! Anything you could do to help would be great. Thank you.
