Well, as a non-believer I can tell you exactly why that is the case for myself.
I actually attended a Bible study group and read the entire book from cover to cover.
I found that not only are there no compelling reasons or evidence to believe that any gods exist, or are even possible, I also found that the character of the god portrayed in the bible was an irredeemably abusive, narcissistic tyrant and a misogynistic bigot who threatens humanity with eternal torture. He calls this behavior “love”.
It seems to me that above all this character values in his humans the quality of gullibility - willingness to accept a thing as true with no evidence, and no rational argument.
This is not a virtue.
Long story short, I’m a non believer in part because I actually read the Bible.

That story sounds made up... I never heard any atheists say such things, it is always theists who claim such things. Maybe if quitting sins is so important to you, you should try stop lying!

That's some nice misrepresentations you've got there. That lying for Jesus business must be quite profitable...

Definitely a real story... no way this is made up... no one would *ever* make up a story like this.

My friend back in the 80s said exactly the same thing to my other friend who was the first of us to become a Christian, he didn’t want to give up all the sinful stuff he enjoyed.

As an xChristian that lost my belief in the abrahamic god, and other gods, on my way out of religious, and supernatural, beliefs all together, I feel that you think that you choose your beliefs over outside evidence convincing you.😢
I left kicking and screaming, but I had no choice in what convinces the grey matter in my head.
I, like many others, were hard believers before actually reading the books for ourselves.
Then, as I tried to make sense of it all, it all came crashing through!
All of the lies! Deceit!
For what? MONEY!!!
I am 63 yrs old now, and have chased the supernatural ever since I was a young man.🤓🧐
I guess, until I experiece something different than I have so far, I am going to stick to the reality I can prove.
No faith needed!
No reason to add something that you can not convince yourself of.
I think a god would know if you were faking belief, or worship in it.
This video didn't change my mind, at all.
✌️🧡🤘🖖

Other than the worship of a God, and attending church, how do atheists live that is different from anybody else?

I'm an atheist because I don't need myths to explain science and the general world. I also am reasonable, confident and intelligent enough to not need some made-up daddy to protect me from the realities of the world, whether good or bad. Finally, even if there were gods, I would certainly not respect the vengeful horror that is the Christian god - a monster who supposedly chose only a few of his creations to support and then gave them instruction to go kill and conquer. A demon who would repeatedly murder scores of his creations whenever he gets his nose bent. No fictionalized messiah figure Jesus can ever wipe that away.

If atheists wanted to sin so badly, they would just be christains and ask for forgiveness. People don’t believe in religion because there is no demonstrable nor credible evidence to support any of the outrageous claims with any religious text.

I somehow find this story suspiciously made up. I only ever heard atheist not wanting to convert after evidence was provided for them (that they themselves even found convincing to warrant belief) only in stories. Never actual people I could look up. It would be nice to see examples we could actually look at for these cases. Granted, you got this from an apologist a few years back, so maybe you didn't have access to the people in the story or the story changed over time such that it sounds a bit off.

However, even it is true, I wouldn't be using this story of years back as a way to present a problem as to why atheists are atheists. Correct me if in wrong, but you seem to present an atheist's denial of evidence (even when presented to them) as a common occurrence they engage in, which is based on a several year old story of just a few atheists not wanting to accept the evidence they found convincing. If you think that atheists not wanting to accept the evidence for God even when they find it convincing is a problem here, (and if you think is common enough in athiests that it should be adressed) then something more than a simple story of a few atheists denying convincing evidence isn't going to get your point across. It's too much of a small sample to make any sort of generalizations about it. For all I could know, those three atheists are the exception that deny the evidence willingly despite how convincing it was to them, and every other atheist is willing to accept it if presented to them.

In short, if you want to make a case that there is a problem that atheists egange in, that you think occurs often enough to adress it, I would suggest to do more than present a few individuals from a story that we can't verify. How else would you expect people to examine the problem seriously based on something that could easily be false or simply not be representative of any significant group within atheism?

I don’t believe he heard a unbiased version of the story cause I believe this Christian friend told you the story saying god did it isn’t enough. Either the atheist was really a agnostic or doesn’t understand what atheism is because some atheists believe the universe in some sense is eternal, so saying things exist therefore god doesn’t make it so. Even if it did how do you know it wasn’t Zeus, Odin or Vishnu. Again saying things exist doesn’t mean god.

Ok chaplain... Explain to me this;

Your book says nothing can appear out of nothing. Therefore the "big bang" is not real according to your book. Something must have made it.

Ok.. so explain where your "god" came from. He/she/it could not have appeared out of nothing, according to your book, something must have made him/her/it.

So.. why worship "this" god? Why stop there? Something must have made him/her/it, so why not worship his/her/its creator? Or the creator of that creator? Or the creator of that creater's creator?

You catch my drift...

Please explain where your "god" came from.

Hey Reece I don’t believe your story. In fact I think you’re lying. The whole thing is a stereotypical strawman of atheists that theists love to purport. You shouldn’t need to lie to your viewers to get views or win people to your worldview.

I'm as unconvinced by this retelling as I was about my mother recounting her multiple personal experiences within Christianity.
That's because we know people can suffer from mental disorders and can be deluded about their experiences.
I'm not sure if any amount of stories could convince me to believe once again that there is a god and if I was to be convinced there was a god I would still have to refuse to serve a god that could command me to kill another person. Nor would I choose to worship a god that has commanded the genocide of entire populations as told within the bible.
That god is an immoral god and not worth worship.
I don't believe in god.
I don't believe in sin.
I don't believe in heaven or hell.
Whenever you tell your stories about "atheists living in sin" it is laughable, whenever you caution about how I'm sinning and risk being punished you are telling me the boogey man is gonna get me.

I'm an adult you should try it.

I think the way most atheists would see it is this: " I don't want to sin, I merely want to live my life without constantly looking to God for direction. I am a good person and I can be trusted to make good decisions". So they see themselves living good lives without the help of any deity and not as I want to sin. If you accuse atheists of just wanting to sin, they will be insulted and become combative. The subject has to be broached in a more respectful fashion.
