Utility Hawaiian Electric faces lawsuit connected to Maui wildfires

A class-action lawsuit has been filed against utility Hawaiian Electric claiming a downed power line on Maui caused the deadliest wildfire in U.S. history, though no official cause heas been determined. Kris Sanchez reports.

Anyone want to consider if HE turned off the power to the entire state. How many generators, barbeques, extension cords and outdoor cooking fires would have caused more fires. Let alone how many homeless are living in the woods that could have started the fire. Car/motorcycle exhaust. Arsonist. 60mph winds in a HURRICANNE zone is not normally a reason to kill the grid. Executives at Hawaii Electric will not be held accountable. This is America - where corporations are coddled and protected by legislators and the courts. At worst, the corporation will pay a fine or a lawsuit award - the cost of doing business you know. In fact, Hawaii Electric and its executives will be awarded utility rate increases so Hawaii consumers will have to pay over and over for the devastation and destruction of this fire.

This why electricity cannot be the sole source of power. There must be redundancy built into the planning…personal gas/deisel powered generators and battery back up.
