The rhythm guitarist has one of the most underrated, yet memorable jobs. Sometimes he can be the band’s primary songwriter (for example, Izzy Stradlin in Guns N Roses), or he can even be the band leader (Malcolm Young (RIP), Scott Ian, etc). He also plays some of the most iconic riffs (usually letting the lead guitarist get all the glory).

Rhythm = Riffs
Lead= Solos

I play lead guitar. Rythym is the foundation of any solo. If you like soloing and you can't play rythym...then pack up go home. Simple as that.
