Very cool. They may not be the fastest transportation around, but they work very well in the woods and deep snow, off trail. It's not comfortable but I've grabbed some big air with them too!

I knew the ski doo would win. I got a 2018 ski doo tundra with the articulating rear end. Work wonders on reverse.

@FrankaDith heck frank i wanted to keep reverse just to get it off my long trailer:) but ya you need reverse on those monster utility sleds, they are definitely made for working.

@janetontheplanet84 taking off the snow flaps is the best thing to do as well - they really screw up the reversing of the sleds in deep snow.

One advantage the viking has over the skandic is the chaincase on the yamaha, versus the skandic's gearbox. try pricing out parts for the gearbox and rebuilding it compared to the chain, bearings, and sprockets on the yamaha. Thats probably why they are so popular in remote areas with limited supplies.

I had a late 90s Scandic SWT in Alaska, they're amazing sleds. The only thing I didn't like, is the tunnel is so wide its uncomfortable to straddle, but standing with one knee on the seat, its a real deep powder machine.

@480Pelle the alpine 2 doesnt do as well in reverse in my opinion, we'll have to make mods to the ski so it doesnt dig in.

Slush is bad no matter what we drive eh. I hope they bring out a lighter version - these things are cars on a track.

Would really like to see the Alpine 2 enter the competition too!

Ну и тесты у Вас) Зацепите сани с грузом 500 кг и попробуйте передом по лесу проехать) А тут, что вы показываете?

The viking goes really well through deep snow

How hard was the flip set on both machines. If you loosen it max or even lock it in the up position you could go like mad in reverse. The Lynx Ranger Mountain (kind of the same as Summit but with upward bent skid) is a BMF in reverse.

@lshobie
I agree, thats's a problem with the Alpine. I tried reversing against my brothers Lynx 5900 (Skandic WT) and I easily beat him with my Alpine 2. That's why I wonder how it would stand up to the SWT. :-)
The Alpine could use a higher rear end though and as mentioned, a modified ski...

Impressive machines, now i understand why you wanted to keep your reverse chain case on your hyped up machine against my opinion of getting rid of it, reverse rocks the those wide tracks although not the fastest machines, they have got lots to say about utility .

hi i have a 1967 OMC Snow Cruiser 207 (20.5 in wide track, 16.5hp, low geared, 5000 rpm, 35 mph max speed, 1.25cm cleats, skinny ski's, low running boards), and i think its great in deep snow, do you think it could compare to deep snow capabilities of these sleds. also do you know how i could get wide ski skins for it, skins like on your long track élan.

Ни один задом не едет. А обычный Буран задом до скончания топлива может ехать.

The Skandic backed up 5 times where as the VK backed up 4 and when the VK broke through  and came up on top of the snow the driver stopped. Also the drivers make a difference, the VK driver was less aggressive. Very poor job boys, hope you don't do this for a living
