My bf keeps talking about how badly he wants a husky. I keep pointing out that he barely gets out of the house and is overall pretty low energy. He doesn't listen. I hope he knows what he's getting into...

Should be;
Before You Rescue or Buy

But i own 5 huskies and everything you said is true. Sad that alot of people dont do their research on this beautiful breed, and that leads to more huskies being put down, or abandoned in shelters. If you can't handle this breed then don't get it.

I have a rescued Siberian Husky and mine is definitely an inside dog and is sooo delicate, she hates water and prefers short walks, barley barks or howls and is a great guard dog. So idk if urs is 100% accurate

I have a Siberian husky, same color and size as Krypto. I agree with everything EXCEPT the outdoor only dog thing. Every husky I owned preferred to be indoors. At most they would like to lay in the yard for about 20-30mins but then they would whine until I let them back in the house. I couldn't make my husky an outdoor dog if I wanted to

Had 2 huskies. Would never own another dog. They're perfect. Beautiful, athletic, loving, and hilarious.

I have a husky at the moment, and for those of you that live in an apartment and want to own one, let me shed some light. I live in an apartment, and I don't like to leave that often. Though when I do I take the dog. Here's my experience on the 5 points in the video with a husky that's been raised in a 1 bedroom apartment.

1. Endurance level
-if I get him excited, which doesn't take much, he will run around the apartment in circles for 30 minutes.
-I try to take him to a Gated soccer field for an hour or so on my 2 days off of the week to burn energy. If the weather is good.
-if he hasn't burned enough energy every time I try to pet him, it activates his excitement and he's running around the house again.

2. Attitude
-Doesn't like to sit still and cuddle for too long.
-very explorative around the same small apartment he's been in for 8 months.
-everything is a toy
-eats everything. Has eaten a small woman's sock before, threw it back up.
-very clingy, always wants me in view.
- in a crate when we aren't home and at night. Cries whenever we leave the house for 30 minutes. Then attempts to escape. I tried to give him the bathroom instead of a cage and he ripped up bathroom tiles and the bottom of the door.
-get a sturdy crate like a Kong crate.

3. Not an indoor dog.
-He's very loud when someone comes over.
-terrible guard dog because he loves everyone
-if i give him a toy he will be fine he doesn't need to be outside 100% of the time
-most of the time while I play a video game he will sit and watch or go in a small space and nap. Like my closet, under my entertainment center, or in his crate.

4. Loud Dog
-Like I said he is very loud.
-I know it bothers the neighbors but we all have dogs and meet up on the weekends sometimes. They know his breed and they know what he entails. If you have asshole neighbors that don't like when you walk too hard I wouldn't advise getting the husky.
-whenever we leave he screams like he is dying. He really hates being away from us. I thought it was the cage so I left him out in the living room once and left. He did the same thing. He is young and being crate trained so I wouldn't recommend leaving ur husky out like that to roam free at a young age.

5 Not a beginner dog
I've never owned a dog before of my own. Yes my parents had dogs before that I lived with but I was young and the parents pulled most of the work. Dogs cost a lot of money between food, toys, vet visits, emergencies. And they also cost a lot of your time. I would agree this is not a beginner dog, but if you have experience and have researched how much work it all takes and have the money and time for the challenge. I'd say go for it. But you have to be mature enough. Treat it like your kid, not an animal.

All in all I've had a very good time with my husky. There have been difficult and very frustrating times but its all in the package. I may have gotten lucky, because some things he does are rare. Such as liking small spaces, and being very clingy. A husky is already a challenging dog and if you are raising It in a small apartment it is going to be even harder. But there are ways around everything.

I'm thinking about starting a YouTube channel about raising a husky in an apartment to help other people that want to as well. Let me know if you think it's a decent idea.

Two things you missed and one happened in the video, they have no traffic sense. They will run into or through traffic without batting an eye. The other is they do so much better if you have 2 or another dog. Other than that you are pretty spot on. This is not a beginner dog as they are very independent and strong willed. You have to be stronger.
Some other things to consider;
-Prey Drive, they will go after smaller animals, cats, squirrels etc.
-Can't be trusted off leash
-Escape artists
-Did you mention they shed? :)

Huskies are a lot of work, but like any other breed, it really depends on the training and patience you give to these amazing creatures.

A lot of bad thing people say about huskys is the reason I want a husky. When they tell me "they have high energy" I see it as a positive. That is the reason I want a dog. Or when people say they shed a lot. I love brushing dogs. People think that I dont know what I'm getting myself into when i say i want a husky, however I have been researching them for almost 7 years now.

First of all I like to rant so I'm sorry. I have a 3 year old husky. She is my profile picture. She is very dominant towards other dogs but towards people she's submissive. The only dog that puts Elza in her place is our Australian shepherd Roxy. Elza constantly wants to play. And if she is playing with you then she is super vocal. Elza gets along with pretty much any animal, we have a ferret and a cat too and she loves them. She is also amazingly smart. She knows a trick called nice where she takes the food you are giving very gently. She is a runner. Huskies are very smart and because of that we had to move our trampoline, put locks on our gate and put her in the kennel if we are going to the park without her. I take her for a run almost everyday and if I don't I regret it. She has so much energy. Huskies are very social animals. You need to socialize them at a young age or they can get aggressive. The same thing can happen if you don't exercise them. They are very energetic and because of that you need to be careful around small children. Our dog has lived around kids her entire life so she is very careful with kids. And if we are out in public she puts on her good girl persona. She wont bark at me, or anyone else. And if kids are petting her she lets them do whatever and if I can tell its bothering her then I'll tell them she doesn't like it. But Huskies are very good dogs. They are also goofballs.

Bro this idea of you riding your board by being pushed by your husky is dope. I hope you have done or at least would do more. I subbed.

I just bought a Siberian Husky puppy and she's actually Albino. She does have a pretty loud screeching bark when she is in her kennel at night. But she seems WAY more chill then my German Shepherd that is WIRED all day 24-7 non stop lol.

My one husky, Ruger was given to us from a family friend that had never owned a large dog, let alone a husky and they were unable to take care of him. They would keep him inside most of the day and when they did let him outside, they would let him run the nearby golf course. When we first got him, he was very secluded and did not understand us petting him and giving him attention. Now, one year later he is a one year old love bug and trouble maker. He fits right in with my family and my 5 year old female husky.

This outdoor thing is so true. Ever since we got our husky when he was 2, 5 months old we gave him the option to come indoors whenever he wanted or to stay outside as we have a more than 5000 square meters fenced area where he can run wild. He is now 5 years old and has never spent a single day or night indoors yet, even when we try to get him inside by force due to terrible weather. He just doesn't wanna get in no matter what.

Have to say that my 18 week old Husky stands her guard against my 28 week old German Shepherd lol. It's actually cute. If anyone wants to know, the two dogs make good companions.
