Studio One can run mono processing on a stereo track. It also allows you to change a track from mono to stereo or Vic versa by clicking a single button.

Honestly Never had problems with mono vs stereo tracks in any DAW except for pro tools

Just use Nuendo or Cubase 13. You can convert a stereo track to mono with 1 click

Studio One, the DAW I use, has this built in as a feature. When you're ready to export your stems or tracks you have the option to choose to export in stereo or mono.

Not to be that “reaper guy”, but I use a free script that’s mapped to a function key on my keyboard that analyzes any selected audio clips to see if it’s stereo according to a threshold of “difference” you set and instantly sums to mono for you in two clicks. Total game changer!

I never comment on shit but it's CRAZY how many of you guys are completely missing the point while simultaneously acting like know it alls- talking about how "studio one/reaper etc does this in one click" when like, no they don't. They sum to mono with one click, which is a completely different thing. It's super easy to sum to mono regardless of your DAW. What this does automatically is the time consuming, by ear process of actually determining if a stereo file has different content on the L and R tracks- making it truly stereo- or if it's just a mono track (identical L and R tracks) spread across 2 channels for no reason. It's a time saving tool regardless of what DAW you use

I thought this was a little silly, since you can just use a apple script/automation on a folder to convert stereo to mono, but then I realized it actually scans each track to see if they are actually supposed to be mono.

I'm shocked at how many people are missing the point. For those saying "How don't you know about split into mono" and "My DAW can do this with one click" ... you're only talking about the actual operation of doing the split.

The power of this software isn't just the action it takes in splitting audio files. The real power is in the analysis it does on every audio file, to determine if the audio is actually mono or stereo. Colt shows this in the video, but apparently a lot of people missed or skipped that part ... you drop the audio files in the software, click analyze, and it AUTOMATICALLY TELLS YOU WHICH FILES ARE ACTUALLY STEREO, AND WHICH FILES SHOULD BE MONO.

No DAW (that I'm aware of) can do this.

I'm glad Colt has been responding to a lot of these comments, but I fear it still isn't sinking in. This is much more than just a simple operation of splitting stereo to mono. That would be a dumb piece of software if that's all it did. This is more of an all-around "File prep" kit, and the split to mono feature it only one aspect of it.

Thanks for doing this video, Colt, you rock!

in reaper all you have to do is right click the waveform and choose the left channel for item source.

Handbreak is a free open source software that can do this for free. It's a video conversion tool, but it has an audio tab that you could use instead

Wowww the amount of time this is going save me. Thanks for making a video about this, buying it now!

Glad you made a video on this! I’ve been using this software for years and it has saved me countless hours! Probably the best $50 I’ve ever spent on a piece of software!

I love this app, been using it for a couple years now! Definitely one of my favorite/essential pieces of software

The problem is that you don't work with Cubase, really not a problem for us

I definitely can't believe I wasn't aware of this software. I truly believe mono files should not be processed using stereo processes but some say there is no difference other than the CPU power you save. Maybe they are right, maybe they aren't. But from now on I never have to think about it again lol. THANK YOU!

How is this not a feature inside every DAW? It’s such a basic process. You’d think anyone working with audio would eventually need to do this.

I’m confused. In protools there’s the split stereo tracks to mono function. Did I miss something?

I know in the last video you were saying how much you love Pro Tools, but this is just a button on every track in Cubase. Easily convert to stereo to mono or vice verse with a single click in the native software.

I understand Pro Tools is the industry standard and I work in commercial studios that are married to it. Might be worth taking a step back and thinking about how much time you could save overall. Crazy to think how many hours you’ve spent in your life just making tracks mono.

Nashville needs to cut the pro tools bs. Y’all are getting absolutely ripped off.
