As a mixing engineer I use Valhalla Room and Delay on almost everything. The delay plugin is so simple to get to sound amazing for so many genres. Soothe 2 is incredible. Izotopes Nuetron 3 has a module called Sculptor which is very similar to the Gulfoss for those who want an actual “all in one” plugin, that isn’t crappy like some “all in ones”

Instead of practising my musical skills, I just train at the gym and learned martial arts.
Now nobody ever criticises my music, so it must be great.

1. Spitfire LABS, tons of really high quality instruments, totally free!
2. Ozone 9 Elements, after I finish a mix I'll put it on, let it do the automatic setting and then adjust from there. It's like having a second opinion, an opinion I tend to agree with.
3. U-he Podolski, great versatile soft synth with lots of great presets.

These are all ones I use on more or less every track!

I frequently use a variation on the Motown effect for vocals. Run your vocal into a separate aux channel, over-compress using an LA-2A or Fairchild style of compressor (I have had luck with other compressors like a DBX 160 or 1176 just depends on what you want), turn up the air of the vocal (a Pultec styled EQ will work nicely and doesn't destroy the phase relationship), and then turn up the parallel aux with your vocal you processed normally. Gives it a nice breathiness and can be dialed to taste while not sounding unnatural. You might need to run a de-esser on the vocal buss depending on the vocalist and microphone but every time I have used it the vocal ended up sounding cleaner and would cut through the mix more. I can recall one time I didn't use it which was for an East Coast rap vocal since he wanted a grittier, more mid heavy sound, with a DJ Premier styled instrumental. Try it out! Worse case if you don't like it, don't use it.

RAUM from Native Instruments is another amazing reverb plug-in! It has three different algorithms, which are all a bit weird and experimental, but I like using it for some stranger, textural stuff. Plus, if you're a bit more conservative with the dials you can get plenty of lush, standard verbs too! The UI is also lovely and intuitive, and there's a ton of tonal control. I made each algorithm its own audio effect rack in Ableton for easy editing on Push, and it's just such a lovely ambient tool. :)

The alternative to Gullfoss would be Soothe2 or DSEQ. I recommend all of them. I have Sculptor, but Izotope almost always adds harshness to my ears, instead of taming the resonance.

TDR Nova is an amazing free dynamic EQ. Anything Klanghelm and Melda are also amazing

TDR Nova is a 4 band dynamic eq, and Analog Obsession (A.O.) Dynasaur is a 5 band analog style dynamic eq
The M4L Pitch Hack device, ableton grain delay, and even the valhalla freqecho are sorta like valhalla shimmer
Voxengo - Oldschoolverb and Anwida - DX Reverb Light model 70s-80s digital reverbs, just like valhalla vintageverb
i also love the M4L Covolution Reverb, TAL - reverb 4, and Arturia - Rev140; and the built in Apple Matrix Reverb is actually my favorite for room sounds
The W.A.Prod. - Combear, Klanghelm - DC1A3, A.O. - LALA and FETISH, TDR - Molot and Kotelnikov, Pulsar - Smasher, and NI - Solid Bus Comp and Supercharger are compressors that can all be used in parallel (i esp like the fetish and dc1a3)
Digital Suburban - Exitixe, Fine Cut Bodies - La Petite Excite, A.O. - Lovend, and IKJB - ReFine, are harmonic exciters
A.O. makes some of my favorite plugins in general, check out the mpreq, ssq, konsol, yala, and definitely get fetsnap
im not sure if the arturia reverb is free at the moment, i got it when it was on sale for christmas or smth
