Grizzly G0768 - Quick Change Tool Post (QCTP) and Top Nut install

AXA sized QCTP installed onto a Grizzly G0768 bench top lathe.

An AXA sized QCTP was mounted onto the compound of a 8" Grizzly G0768 via a turned down top bolt as shown in this video:

4 mm of the bottom of the threaded bushing in the AXA QCTP was reamed out to fit over top of the boss of the compound.

After getting tired of using a wrench to tighten down the tool post, another bolt was fabricated with a cylindrical head. A flat was ground onto the head and hole drilled to insert a metal rod with a small handle. This works quite well, and saved turning down a larger piece of round stock for a top compression nut for the tool post.

Is there a compelling reason to go AXA instead of OXA if the compound and slide tend to be the weak links? Just curious as I'm looking to get the same lathe but would love to skip the mods if I can, for now. Famous last words but I don't "think" I will ever need a larger lathe 🤣

Does anyone know the thread size and spacing on that stud? I don't have the tools to size metric threads and I need to buy a corresponding tap for the stud.

I just got an 8x16 Lathe and your video is of great help to add an AXA tool post to my Lathe. How did you go about taking the 4mm off the interior bushing? Thanks for the video and any help!

Is the video link in your description truncated? It seems to be an invalid link as-is.
