Twice the size of an elf? Peter Jackson made it look way bigger than that. I thought it was Godzilla sized.

Durin's Bane is NOT his "name" it is what the Dwarves called it, BECAUSE it killed Durin VI.

That isn't its name, that's its title. We never find out its name. The only named Balrog is Gothmog.

Shouldn't be allowed to mention Tolkien's lore in the same paragraph as ROP...

It's actually known they did not have wings It was the aura that they gave off that made it seem that way Dragons were the only things that Melkor made that had wings in the first one did not.

It's not known? Maybe in the movie it isn't. But in the book, the Balrog is explicitly described as having wings

You want to learn about Tolkeins lore. Read the Silmarillion. Don't even touch or watch the rings of power.

The balrogs were Maiar who served Morgoth, thus they were originally non-corporal entities. They could have chosen a form with or without wings; maybe the reality of physics overcame what they thought would be a terrifying winged form and they couldn't fly.

That said, I don't think they had wings.

In the books, Balrogs are probably only around 10-12 feet tall. They're presence feels enormous, but they aren't. Apart from that, almost everything about this video is wrong. "Its name is Durin's Bane" lol

They are bigger than that and yes they do have wings. When they meet the Balrog in Moria in the books it describes the Balrog and "standing tall and spreading its WINGS from wall to wall".

"Some believe it has Wings"

About that, I have a theory that both camps are right to a degree. Look at How Gandalf describes the Balrog after its fire has gone out in the Book version of the Two Towers. It's less creature of Shadow and Majesty and more shapeless and mud-like. My theory is that the Balrogs of Morgoth were Shapeshifters, with flame helping to solidify themselves (perhaps not even completely). The real question is if Durin's Bane had Wings while chasing the Fellowship through Khazad-Dum.

The books say they were several times that of a man. And humanoid shaped meaning it stand like a human but that doesn’t mean they didn’t look demonic. The Balrog in the film is humanoid in body shape but has a demon face and tail.
