Hello Gavin, Sarah, Oscay & Harry, finaly you made it to Marrakech.
Marrakech is more than 1200 years of history of Morocco (like Fes).
It was the capital of many dynasties who ruled Morocco, espacially Almoravid Dynasty, the realm in their time was an empire from Senegal, Mauritania to Spain & Portugal, so in Spain you will find many similarities of art in Morocco.
Foods are amazing in Marrakech, Gavin you should try Tanjiya meal, it's made by man (artisans), and the Marrakchi people are known to be funy and commedians.
Alsp eat the meat prepared by the king's chief in Marrakech
It's wise to visit Toubkal in the moutains from Marrakech (about 3 hours).

Street stalls open in the evening.They all serve pretty much the same stuff. The square is historically and culturally important and the sights, sounds and smells, are unique. They put Christian's heads on spikes here in the middle ages!
I traveled this year during Ramadan but, as a Christian, I didn't observe the fast - while being respectful of the people around me who were.
Everyone seemed to appreciate a friendly 'Ramadan Mubarak.'
I loved seeing big brother looking after little brother. So sweet.
