What a pleasant surprise to find your channel as I was looking for backhand slice tutorials for my daughter. You were my daughter Sophie’s first ever coach in Atlanta about 8 years ago…she stopped playing for a few years but picked the racket up again last year and just made her high school team. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching your videos.

Being a player who developed my game way back in the 1970’s I learned to hit a slice or under spin backhand. The first professional tournament that I attended I got to watch Rod Laver play Ken Rosewall. I realize that the slice has evolved since then but Rosewall’s Backhand was considered the best in the game during his career. When you master the skills to hit ban effective slice you have options and more tools to use. A well hit slice has a low bounce that can be challenging for a opponent to hit. It’s an effective shot for an approach or as a neutral shot in an extended rally. I played a lot on clay and learned to mix up spin to keep my opponent off. You can hit drop shots off of your slice so it adds disguise. Because I use one hand I can also drive or hit top spin with a similar preparation of I want to mix it up.

Both Barty and Graf had backhand slice in their toolbox, and they rose to the top of the WTA tour.

Thanks Meike. Super effective shot. I've always have had a backhand slice as a single handed backhand player but since I started using the Head Gravity Pro am hitting even more effective slices. This may not be a factor for all players but the weight, stability, swingweight and comfort has improved my backhand defense and enabled deeper, more offensive shots on returns and approach shots. Do need to get it back sooner. ;-) Have appreciated several of your insights. Play doubles 90% of the time. Wish you continued success.

Great video!

Please do a part #2 on the defensive slice where you are forced to stretch wide and hit medium to high on the backhand side. That's the kind of shot that will help oneself getting out of tricky situations without burning out the legs. Another progression of that is the squash type slice forehand on the other wing.
Perhaps mix in some slow motion versions of your demo swings. Speaking for myself, I'm not fast enough to catch all the details in real time.

Hi Meike! One of the best backhand slice lessons on YouTube. It is a pleasure to watch you and to listen to you, you are a great pedagogue.

Do you play with MP version of Head Gravity?

Thank you again and keep up a good work. You deserve 100x more views and subscribers. Very high quality content and approach. I've seen and watched a lot and I know what I am saying. :)

It's amazing that Graf could hit passes w/ slices especially in doubles. I can get some points by dinking it and keeping it off-pace but when I'm hitting off their approach it's tough to get pace and keep it in/away from people. Thanks for the video. I like the different camera angles especially when we can see the crazy effect on the ball.

Beautiful slice Meike probably one of your best shot. Roger Federer slice is my favorite. A shot that is very effective in defense and in offense, makes some player go crazy 😂

This video is the best overall SLICE Backhand instruction anywhere on social media. Well done. Since Steffi Graf dominated the best players in the world, ( 73-3 in 1983 )and she almost never hit topspin on the backhand side... Could you explain how she produced that shot ? ...With one video dedicated to that shot. Her lower takeback / and level skidding low slice style is being lost to history. THANKS

Really helpful Meike. Thank you! By the way, curious what string were you using in the video?

Thanks Meike. Is there any movement from your wrist after you prepare the racquet for the slice? Is it still in that same position at the end of the follow through?
