The ancient kingdom of Macedons was Greek the same way other independent cities and kindoms of the ancient world were Greek, like Sparta, Argos, or Thebes. Greek people have every support from serious historiography and academia.

None of the interviewees talk about who their "ancestors" were. They were not the Ancient Greeks and not Alexander the Great as the Slavs that are today's residents of the region moved to the region at 600AD when the Ancient Greek History was written thousand years ago. They are Slav and Albanian residents of this Geographical region that is now called Northern Macedonia. Imagine the argument "we are Macedonians". That is an argument to be used by the Greek people born in the Greek region of Macedonia that carry 4000 years of History. Their ancestors were the real original Macedonians that gave the name Macedonia to the region. They speak modern Greek which is the continuation of the ancient Greek language and it is the language Great Alexander spoke. They are the ones who should say "we are Macedonians" . The slavs/albanians are citizens of North Macedonia and carry none of the Ancient Greek History. It is a good deal for the Northern Macedonians as they eventually are able to move forward and protect their country financially and military under the NATO umbrella. I have friends from Northern Macedonia that they admit freely that they have nothing to do with the Ancient Greek Macedonia but they still consider themselves Macedonians because of the region's name as the Macedonian ancient geographical region extends outside Greece hence the issue today. That is a fair argument and I respect it and the new agreement makes the division between Ancient Greek Macedonia and Northern "Slavic/Albanian" Macedonia clear. It also describes the citizenship as Citizen of North Macedonia and their language as Southern Slavic. The agreement does not mention Nationality as that is defined by the people themselves and not by agreements. Foe example some are ethnic Albanians and some are ethnic Slavs. If they want they can be called Slavic Macedonians or just Albanians if they wish and none will be able to stop them. The citizens of North Macedonia should be out on the streets celebrating but instead they are out on the street burning things. I guess some people will never be happy ever.

Never and nowhere in history there is a mention of a country named Macedonia or a language. History and archeological findings are telling us that Macedonia was and is Greek. Nothing ancient was ever found with the Bulgarian dialect they speak written on it. On the contrary everything that was found is written in Greek. Like the Ancient Macedonian coins with Alexander on them and his name written in Greek. Why would he want his name in Greek if he wasn't Greek? His father Philippos participated in the Olympics in ancient Olympia, where ONLY Greeks could participate. It was forbidden for anyone else who wasn't Greek. Alexander spread the Greek language and civilization to the countries he conquered. Why would he do that if he wasn't Greek? Macedonia, Alexander, Philippos, Polixeni or Olympias, Alexanders mother. These are all Greek names with a meaning. For example. Philippos is a two word name. Philos+ ippos. Philos means friend and ippos means horse. A friend of horses. These are just a few of proofs that Macedonia is Greek. I can understand why you would want luxurious ancestors and glorious history but it's of no help when it isn't true. Stop stealing our names and history. You are Slavs who came to the region in the sixth century and had no alphabet until the ninth. Try to find where you came from and find your own history.

Vardaska is the best name, ancient Macedonian Empire is not the same with geographically entity which called Macedonia. Slavs arrived at 5-6 a.d. in Balkans.

The negotiation is not over. It actually starts now. All greeks should unite to claim back their ethnic and cultural identity of Macedonia. Their neighbors should be left with the name of northern Macedonia, which is simply a reflection of geographical position. Slavic and Albanian peoples have nothing to do with the ethnic identity of Macedonia/Greece. The people of Northern Macedonia are friendly and should be helped by Greece as much as possible. The two nations have so many things in common. It was a big mistake for them to try to develop a national identity based on ancient Greek history. Why did (and still do) want to get rid of their Slavic roots?

Before 1992, they were Yugoslavian, the area was/is Vardaska, the name FYROM the M being pinned on their which had absolutely no relation to the area only in ancient times before the Slavic people came to the area and for the 50 millionth time the language spoken in the FYR is a Bulgarian dialect, before the Bulgars, the area was inhabited by the Hellenic kingdom of Macedonia. The name was appropriated by the people in this area mainly after the second world war, to a people and place that lacked an ethnic identity when General Tito's agenda was put into full effect. This is not hate, this is the truth, reality!
