Man, this is my absolute favorite version of this classic...sweet Betty's voice, man...beautiful! And Ray...Ray!

Ray covered all the bases in his career: crooner, blues shouter, jazzbo, soulster, gospel singer...and was concurrent with Solomon Burke in merging soul and country. Truly a genius. A wonderful song, Cynthia, and nice reaction, Harri.

This was recorded in 1961. Ray is great, Betty is one of the greatest jazz singers around. She can scat like nobody’s business. I was blessed to see her many times before she passed. It was always kind of a dopey song to me until I heard by them.

My first time hearing this version of this old standard. My new favorite version.
So cool, calm and full of some angst at the same time.
I'm sure many can remember having a similar situation conversing with someone and steering them to stay. Wonderful .
Cheers Harri.

Great version of a classic song. Love Ray’s voice, and Betty’s. It is a tiny bit naughty, which is what makes it so special!
Many thanks, Cynthia, for this stellar 5 star request, and to Harri, for your reaction and enjoyment upon hearing this gem.

Originally written by Frank Loesser who won an Academy Award, when his song won, best song in 1949 for Neptune's Daughter.
Ray Charles and Betty Carter did this wonderful version in 1962. Their vocals mash so wonderfully, with Betty's very female vocals and Ray's sweet male vibes, making for an inescapable tune on jukeboxes and jazz radio in 1962. It remains very popular today at Christmas, with somewhat suggestive lyrics still. Great reaction Handsome Harri ❤❤
Great choice Cynthia❤👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦

Imagine this being banned, and it was just in 2018! With all the songs and the things they say now, and they found this offensive?! By the way a shout out to John Chu who suggested this one instead of Bing Crosby and Doris day which I had picked. I had never heard this version either. Thanks for the great reaction Harri. 💜 1961.

Man, it was a different time when this song came out, we loved it, thought nothing of it. Yeah, I said it. That Ray!

This was covered by everyone back in the day, it was practically a Christmas song. Written in 1944 for a film Neptunes Daughter

This song was written by composer Frank Loesser in 1944 as a party piece. He and his wife, Lynn Garland, performed the song at private functions. In 1949 Frank was convinced to publish it. It was used in in the movie "Neptune's Daughter" as a cute means for the two couples, Ricardo Montalban (sung by Carlos Ramirez) and Esther Williams and then Red Skelton and Betty Fields to continue their dates past the "drop off at the door" stage.
The song was often performed on TV variety shows of the 50's - 70's, typically between the star of the show and a guest star.
One version that was popular was a duet between Dean Martin and Marilyn Maxwell.
The backlash came about fairly recently. Allegations included statements that it promoted the use of a knock out drink to keep a person from leaving.
NOTE: In the case of its usage in the movie "Neptune's Daughter" the song was sung by the gentleman to the lady and then later in the movie by the lady to the gentleman.

Harri, you need to hear the Dianne Reeves/Lou Rawls rendition. For me & my wife, there's none better!
