Lures vs Live Bait (Inshore Slam Tournament Results)

Artificial lure or live bait? What's your preference? Which one would you use in a competitive inshore fishing tournament for redfish, speckled trout, and snook?

For years, we've always heard that live bait (and/or cut bait) is always better than artificial lures for catching big inshore saltwater fish like red drum, trout, and snook.

So we set out to see if we could not just compete, but win a competitive inshore fishing tournament with nothing but lures (even though every other fishing team would be using 100% live bait).

Our lures of choice were the Slam Shady Paddletail and a Gulp shrimp (although the majority of fish were caught on the Slam Shady paddletail).

We focused on the same areas that have been proven to work that week based on the trends that had been shared inside of our private Insider fishing club (the online club with 12,000 members).

As you'll see in the inshore slam results, not only did we catch a TON of inshore fish, but we posted up a pretty nice slam.

Multiple snook and trout all in the first part of the day!

And at the end of the day, we proved that artificial lures can certainly out-catch live bait if you're in the right spot (and have the right lure).

In this case, we beat the entire field (with some captains in the tournament) without using a single live bait.

Thoughts?

It was definitely an inshore slam tournament that we'll never forget.

We'll also make sure to never wait until the last minute to weigh in... cost us 1st place and some extra cold hard cash!

Awesome day that went with a great plan! Does this mean next time, no lallygagging on the way back to weigh in? 😂🎣 Great job Luke and Tony!
