A lot of people insist on fishing deep in the summer but I think these tips gave an awesome breakdown of what's really going on with the water in the summer. I'm looking forward to fishing points and vegetation now and getting a few more fish in the boat thanks to BassResource.

This video will help me understand lake fishing, although I rarely go lake fishing, but when I do I definitely will use this video.

Thanks for all the advice. I normally stay away from weeds when fishing but now I will try to concentrate on this area from now on.

I am a scuba diver and get to see fish in their own environment. Here is what I see in lakes in the Northeastern US (summer time)-- very large bass exist in places where I never get so much as a bite when fishing. It's crazy. Really big largemouth will follow us from the shore in 3 feet of water down to the first thermocline at around 25 feet. Bass dip below to cool off but mostly hover below 15 feet unless actively hunting the shallows. We hand feed them freshwater mussels, which they gulp down. I don't know what the legality of using mussels as bait is, but bass love them. It's not uncommon to have four or five trophy size bass competing for bits.
I rarely see medium sized fish. Lots of babies or adult fish but not many middling size fish of any species. Below about 30 feet is a wasteland almost totally devoid of fish. You might see some lake trout here or there but I have been at 40-80 feet in lakes many times and never saw anything living in water that cold.
I have dived under ice as well, water was 36 degrees and we cut thru 19 inches of ice. All the fish were huddled together inside a small wreck we were diving. They were so sluggish you could just about touch one before it moved slightly away. Food was the last thing on their minds and whatever tiny iota of heat they shared was noticeable to them.

I love to fish deep in the summer. We have no grass in most the lakes I fish so it's almost a have to. Good info as always sir.

These are all great tips for boaters with good electronics. From an experienced bank fisherman, knowledge is still the key to success. Y'all just have to use what you can and make the best of it. Find a stocked pond, save up for a boat or join your local fishing forums and make a boater friend with an open back seat.

Very interesting that shallow water on hot days is a great place to fish in some cases.

I fish a low flow river in the summer. Learning about different o2 levels will help me out a lot during the summer months.

Excellent info on summer fishing, although I don't have a depth finder or fish finder so it's hunt and peck for me and my canoe.

loved this! Last night, I was bemoaning the fact that I haven't been able to get on the water for 2 weeks, so I was feeding my addiction watching videos. Was specifically looking for insights into dealing with July heat. Your video filled the bill., Thanks!
