Well the Republican party could have cleaned up their mess if Mitch McConnell wouldn't hide in his turtle shell and just removed tubby Tuberville from that committee. And as the leader of his caucus he can do that. Just like Chuck Schumer as the leader of his caucus can do the same thing.

Why isn't a majority or even super majority able to thwart the insanity of one lone extremist?

Tuberville's goal was to, like McConnell in 2016, to prevent the sitting President from being able to make appointments. Tuberville's hope was that Trump would win, and could appoint loyalists all across the military on day 1

I think what a lot of people don't know is this has always been the policy of the military. If a member of our military needs a specialist, that isn't in the area, like a kidney specialist, heart specialist, neurologist, gynecologist, we get our military members to them, it's the least we can do. That is all this was about, he wanted to leave women out that might want to end a pregnancy, and that is just not right.
