"I don't want to spend hours in training"
Then don't. Just play the game casually. Learn a couple basic combos and go beat on your friends. No one is forcing you to learn the hard stuff. If you're best combo is jumping fierce to low forward to tatsu and you're happy with that... great! Have fun. But let people who want high execution stuff have THEIR fun. And let them be rewarded for doing something harder.

Playing guitar is sick, but it’s too execution heavy. Id like one with “modern-controls” so that I could still impress my friends!

“I don’t want to learn execution I just want to play mind games” ngl means you probably aren’t good at either.

Its a huge misconception that combos and execution are the hard part of FGs at all. It takes far far longer to get experienced enough for "mind games" against developed established players. Execution has two benefits for a game though. For one, it gives you a much more linear development path so you can experience small goals consistently as you gain experience with the game. Its kind of like running for sports. Running does not teach you how to play football or box. However, the more you run the easier it will be and you can always run more to improve your development

It's fun to watch SF6 do everything right when it comes to the execution "ceiling" and "floor" and still have people complain. Just a second ago the internet was bothered about simple inputs and now we're here.

to the people that don't want to "train" or "lab" a character because it's hard to do a dragon punch or hadouken, there is always Dive Kick. Two buttons: dive and kick. No motions, no multi-hitting combos, all mind game... good luck.

When sf4 came out, i was a complete noob and had never touched a fighting game and decided to pick Gen as a main not knowing the finger crunching lab time I'd have to put in. I didn't get very good but i learned the basic hands fadc comboes and the stance switching combos into supers among others and pulling those off online basically overrode the losses and wins for me.

Practicing execution is honestly addicting. And i dont even like labbing like that tbh.

I'm glad my Guile meme made it into one of your videos, even if just for a second.

I totally agree with this, i had several debate with my fighter friends about that but they still don't get it.

This is exactly right. SF5 is like watching basketball on an 7ft rim. Anybody can dunk so it's just not as rewarding to get good at or spectate.

I agree although people need to be more specific about what they mean by execution. SF4 had brutally hard 1 frame links that were central to some characters but it also had super and DP inputs that were so easy you could get them by mashing the joystick around like you're having a seizure. People say "execution" a lot when they really mean "long ass training mode combos". I played Gen in SF4 and I can't do some of the stricter low forward hit confirms in SFV.

The annoying thing in SFV is there is some combos that do require execution for a bunch of characters but they arent damage optimal so why use them? Theres only a handful of characters in SFV that have hard combos that are actually optimal. Compared to SF4 where almost every character has the harder routes and they will net you more damage so theres more incentive to actually learn them. Ircc its the same in most the older SF/Capcom games too.

Going to the execution and sports analogy imagine if ever player in basketball could shoot a 3 pointer provided they have the opening, it would be a lot less hype to watch when people do sink them in a high pressure situation.

The title had me thinking about the other execution lolol

I like spending time in the lab. The learning aspect is one of the most fun times in a fighting game.

Part of the mind games is being able to pull off those combos in high stress situations. Its like the morrighan effect (AKA The Chris Jitters) that causes people to drop combos on Morrighan more often than any other character. The people that say these things arent the kind that will play a fighting game and commit to it. Theyre too used to casual games that just feed you a win and dont have any actual depth to them. Im very much against the path fighting games are trending towards because of this. The games dont have to be super difficult but if were all just playing fantasy strike ( Not to hate on it cause its a solid fighter still) then whats the point?

first people want a combo heavy loose game with omega level RTSD and then they want a game that doesn't have a high skill ceiling to compensate, I swear I don't understand people

High execution is important. Modern games reward too much low effort, low execution players.

Akira Nishitani, one of the original developers of street fighter 2 has said on numerous occasions that the street fighter series of games should reward “Speed and Execution”. That the game should be almost “Blindingly Fast.”

I absolutely agree that execution should be celebrated, but I think that we need to find a way to express that "Execution isn't the *most* important thing." So many times I see people who want to play a character in a fighting game so they boot it up, go into the training mode spend 10 hours practicing crazy elaborate combos without even playing a match and then lose and get discouraged. We need to normalize the idea that it's OK to not know what you're doing, to not be perfect and to not get the most out of everything your character can do. Experience the game, have fun first and get good second... Unless you're a professional in which case get gud scrub.
