Thanks for this info man, I’ve had the same issue with Spotify and your way KIND OF help me resolve my issue, I also use an external hard drive and I do believe what you said about having it downloaded on both external and internal hard drive is what’s causing the problem. So what I had to do was turn my external hard drive off and then go to the PlayStation App Store on my PS4 and then search for Spotify, and re-download it to my internal hard drive. So guys if his way doesn’t work for you then try it my way:

1) turn off external hard drive

2) go to ps store and re download Spotify to your internal hard drive, I’m assuming you can download it to your external hard drive as well but just to be safe I just did it on the internal hard drive instead.

Thank you so much to the original poster, music is my life and I can’t get through the day without it and being able to play music while I play my game is one of the main reasons I game lol. You helped me fix an issue that I’ve had since like September 2020. Thanks bro.

ACTUALLY NEVERMIND, THANK YOU BRO I LOVE YOU NO HOMO, you explained it so good, i was too soon to comment about it not popping up on neither storage, cause after i did what you said, i was able to download it while the storage device was disconnected and now it downloaded and opened up, beforehand it would say that it was downloaded, but it couldnt be found in the playstation and it wouldn't open up the app

Quick and to the point version.
1. Unplug your external hard drive
2. From you ps4 library search for the Spotify app using the search bar.
3. Select the app and click download
4. When its finished downloading plug your external hard drive back in
5. Restart ps4
6. go to spotify and run it. It will say its downloaded on both your system and external hard drive.
7. Click yes and delete from external hard drive.
8. If it says please wait for more than 5 minutes just restart the ps4.
Done.
