Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Wednesday that Israel will press on with its war on Hamas until it achieves “total victory.”
The Israeli prime minister made the comments during his address to a joint session of U.S. Congress.
“Israel will fight until we destroy Hamas’ military capabilities and its rule in Gaza and bring all of our hostages home. That’s what total victory means, and we will settle for nothing less,” he said.
Netanyahu also took aim at protesters who had gathered outside the Capitol ahead of the Israeli leader’s speech, calling them “useful idiots.”
Israel’s war in Gaza has sparked intense division in the United States, spurring protests and resulting in arrests on college campuses, alienating voters on both sides of the issue. Netanyahu sought to blame Iran for the protests, accusing Tehran of funding demonstrations in the U.S. and suggesting that they may have funded the protests in Washington, D.C. ahead of his appearance in the Capitol.
