Netanyahu vows ‘total victory’ in Hamas war
Показать описание
Israel will keep fighting in its war with Hamas until it achieves "total victory," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Friday.
"This war can come to an end," he said at the United Nations General Assembly. "All that has to happen is for Hamas to surrender, lay down its arms and release all hostages."
More than 41,500 Palestinians have been killed and more than 96,000 have been wounded as a result of Israel’s military operation in Gaza, according to the figures released Thursday by the Health Ministry.
Netanyahu also added that Israel must "defeat Hezbollah," calling the Iran-backed militant group the "quintessential terror organization in the world today."
His comments come as the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah continues to escalate, with Israeli airstrikes killing two top commanders in Beirut in less than a week and with an Israeli strike into Beirut, targeting Hezbollah on Friday.
Netanyahu vowed Thursday to keep attacking Hezbollah with "full force," even after the U.S., France and Middle Eastern allies called on both sides to accept a three-week cease-fire proposal in an effort to ease escalations.
