The world's first spider POV -

I found a way to position my microscope so that I can see through the lenses of an old molt of a huntsman spider!

Hmm I don't think spiders have the best vision -

Watch this video to find out what a spider sense really is!

Hey all! For the record, this spider pov doesn’t take into consideration neurological processing or extra focusing abilities that the spider might use. That is, it’s not really a true spider pov - however, spider exoskeletons are made tough and this is clear from the video - the exoskeleton optics are not made for fine focus - the exoskeleton lens here is the equivalent of someone blow torching sand to make a very crude set of glasses. It’s common knowledge that spiders have a “spider sense” - this is a collection of senses that the spider relies on to navigate the world. More importantly, just enjoy the video for what it is - a fun series of clips - I don’t think anyone has made something like this and so it’s just a unique perspective and really just shows how uneven the exoskeleton chitin near the eyes, really is.

To be fair. The eye itself and the lenses arent the same thing and we have zero idea how the neuro processing of a spider really works to determine what the images even are.

The eye is just a lens, man. How we process visual stimuli occurs in the brain. All you essentially did was hold some objects up in front of a whole bunch of tiny mirrors.

At least I know spiders seem to have a better grasp on reality than I do.

Spider have weirdest eye ever! They have bundle(or mass) of optic nerves behind those lenses. they can rolling that bundle of optic nerves like human eyeball(it's actually brain), so their lens is like window and real eyeball is keep rolling behind it. They don't use all 8 lenses simultaneously. Their exoskeleton is like tank and they seeing things like tank driver.

All we are seeing is how the light passes through the lens. If we do the same with a human eye, we would get a similar result. A true measure is how the spiders brain processes the light. As well as the lens, most eyes have other muscles that helpfocus and process the images.

I thought you were abusing a live spider until you said it was a molt

I know from using glasses you should have put the camera closer then you did to the spider eye lens, the light bends and makes it more difficult to see the real way a spider would see.

Cool video but optically wrong. You need to put your censor where the retina is to know if it's blur or not

damn if you look at microscope lenses from a far everything looks warped and blurry, microscopes must not be able to focus an image.. wow

This only shows how you see things through the lenses of the spiders exoskeleton. But good for a unique try. And spiders have very good eye sight. 😊 Spiderman told me so.
