14 hrs Alone in Japan Airlines First Class to Tokyo

Join me onboard Japan Airlines First Class all the way over to Tokyo. What's more, I'll have the entire cabin to myself for 14 hours. As always with my trip reports, I'll share with you all elements of the experience from the luxurious bed, Japanese tasting menu, caviar and various premium amenities.

Starting in Chicago, my flight will cross the international date line, meaning technically I will be onboard for two days before arriving into Tokyo's Narita Airport. Given I've recently travelled onboard Singapore Airlines First Class, as well as ANA First Suites (both on their Boeing 777-300ER) I feel this review will be an interesting point of comparison between key luxury airline products in the Asian region. Have you flown JAL before, and if so what was your flight like?

Not sure what's more impressive, the plane seat or that you managed to get into Japan right now

PLEASE please please show ALL the menus! That's literally 80% of the reason I watch these types of videos! I pause and read through every option. It's so interesting to see different options and then the actual serving of what you choose. For me, I really would/ have (by have, I mean twice in my life) purchased first class based on food. I love your content!

I recently flew JAL in long haul business class between Haneda and Dallas. I was pleasantly surprised to see how attentive and polite the cabin crew are. It made for a really memorable experience.

I think the fold-down changing platform is the best example of Japanese attention-to-detail in this entire video. Lovely touch.

I’d just like to say I really really love watching the first class and flight videos. They’re a good length and are very entertaining. There are so many videos and this is my new favorite channel. It truly feels like I’m there with him.

We flew 15 hours in Air Canada Economy. Dubai to Toronto. This flight was pure hell every second of it. Was a completely full flight, and we were packed in like sardines. I could not even imagine flying that first class.

Now THAT is a great way to travel to Japan!! Love that you didn't just stick to the "western" menu and went on the Tour of Japan. So cool they provided a "map" of the offerings as I would have no clue what most of that was. Seaweed gelatin? I'd try it once for sure....but normally pass on that stuff. Great review as always!! Maybe someday I'll get to Japan for real? The boss isn't sending me anytime soon... haha.

Have you ever considered riding on a Japanese ferry before? It's quite the experience and I definitely think it would be worthwhile trying it out at least once.

Only when the country's actually open to tourists of course!

Love the vid btw! Can't believe people are still hating on the Ripped Jeans and the NASA Jacket tho.

I can't wait to try JAL first class, too at the end of July 2022! I only had about 42k Alaska miles so I bought 33k miles more to complete the 75k award miles needed for my one-way flight. All in all, I only paid $680 for this $10, 000 flight. How cool is that?!

Spectacular Japan! I’m glad you had a great experience with Japan Air. Cherry blossom trees are my absolute favorite trees in the world. That was a nice treat at the end. Great video!

The first class culinary adventure is such a nicely produced part of these travel videos. I come away hungry after watching!

JAL is amazing. Flown it plenty of times out of ORD. I find the Japanese menu to be better from Tokyo than from the US. I always do Western Menu leaving USA and Japanese menu leaving Japan. Also, Salon champagne is incredible.. Best in the world, imo.

I loved going to japan back in 2018. My dad grew up in japan and unfortunately, we had to fly back for the funeral of my dad's uncle but the service and quality of everything onboard jal were amazing. We flew business class and I must say I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. Arguably one of my favorite flights regardless of the extremely long flight (flew from Los Angeles).

Even if he doesn't or can't leave the airport, that's fine. The international airports in Japan are incredible

compared to a lot of your other first class videos this seems to be your favorite and seems rightfully so.

I flew to Japan with my family at the end of 2019 just before the pandemic lockdown happened. We flew JAL Business class on the 777. The Sky Suite wasn't leather or as nicely laid out but we did get the Hibiki and the fantastic menu. Unfortunately the slippers were too small for my feet so I couldn't wear them but being able to lay back flat and sleep was amazing.

I Played in Japan for 3 years back in the 90s. Even then their coach has better service than some of the business class here in America. FYI, My wife was a senior flight attendant for Singapore airlines and was surprised how there's is a lack of service on some short first class flights.
