"I want to start my detailing business but I work a full-time job. What do I do?"

There's two scenarios to this:

➡️ There's what you would like to do
➡️ There's what you can do

What most people would like to do is quit their day job and focus on their business 100% of the time.

In an ideal world, it’d be nice if you can drop everything and focus on growing your business.

But that's just not the case.

You're going to have a lot of limitations on what you can do and when you can work on your business.

So how do you work on your business if most of your time and energy is at your day job?

You have to figure out where you can add hours in the day to work on your business.

This will look different for every single person based on their job and responsibilities.

👉🏽 Can you work on the laptop from 8pm to 10pm?
👉🏽 Can you detail cars on your days off?
👉🏽 Can you get off of work at 1pm and detail at 2pm?
👉🏽 Can the customer drop off their vehicle at your location?

There's no perfect science to this. You have to find pockets of time, depending on what you need to do, to work on your business.

Here's what I did for a while:

I would schedule my details from 8am to 12pm, I'd clock in at my first job from 1pm to 5pm, and then immediately clock in at my second job from 5:30pm to 2am.

That wasn't fun but that's all I could do at the time.

It can be very difficult to do because you have a lot going on in life, but if you really want to have your own business and work for yourself one day, you have to make the time now.

I don't recommend you just quit your job because you don't like it and want to go do your own thing.

Things can easily spiral out of control and you can find yourself in a bad financial and emotional situation.

TLDR; start now with whatever you can and slowly work your way up 🙂

✅ Ready to grow your business and attract the best customers?

That faster you want to shift your income status from “employee” or (limited opportunities )
To entrepreneur or (unlimited opportunities) will depict primarily where your focus goes.. it’s no secret when working for someone else your forced to give 8 hours of your life a day to that company.. automatically your focus will be on your duties at work, and not to mention the 5 people your around the most, without your choice, you’ll ultimately “think, act, and talk” like those people, until you get away from those people or outgrow them entirely which usually doesn’t happen working side by side in a company for someone else.. it’s easy to stay “neutral” doing the very least. Being a business owner, a truly successful one, takes a lot of risks, a lot of doubts, a lot of pressure. What your teaching is people stay half in, while trying to create a half out detailing company. All this does is split their focus in half, leading the results of taking on business like an entrepreneur taking twice the amount of time. And you can’t learn how to”run a business on YouTube” sure you can spend a few hours after working watching videos how to detail cars better. But almost every piece of advice from any other detailer about “how to run your business” that’s online, doesn’t help very much. Information isn’t needed in this scenario, life experience is whats needed, and how limited will you be be to that experience when working 40-50Hours for someone else?

I live in a '05 Hyundai Elantra, and work fulltime as a detailer at a Chevy dealership. I've been planning to get enough supplies and equipment to clean and protect the whole vehicle, but for the last 4 months I've had pretty much all my extra/saved money go minor court fees, 3 phones bc I've only just gotten a po box to get a case, and of course buy here pay here cars aren't necessarily reliable. Anyways, I've been trying to save up to Detail out of my car, and now that I live in it I figure I need a small storage unit, 55-90$, to keep unneccesary things like toolboxes and suitcases. However I'm about to attempt to Detail on my 2 days off while living in my car. The detailing is most likely going to be for 4 or 5 friends cars at first in order to get pics and 5 star reviews from different names, all for a decent looking website and google business page. By the point of having both a website and Google business page, I should be financially stable enough to buy reels to make everything vehicle mounted, as well as upgrading equipment. Hopefully at that point I can make/save enough money to start renting an apartment and be self-employed fulltime.
