Indian Navy's first three nuclear-attack submarines will have 95 per cent 'Made in India' components and the content is expected to go up further in the next three years, a report said on Sunday.

According to a report by news agency ANI, the decision-makers in New Delhi's South Block are confident that the project will be taken to its logical conclusion 'without any external help'. "The nuclear attack submarine project would be a big boost for the indigenous submarine capability as 95 per cent of it would be made in India. This would provide a big boost to the domestic defence sector including both private and public sector," government sources were quoted as saying in the agency report.

The report said that the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is considering the proposal to build three nuclear attack submarines, in a project, which is separate from the ongoing development of the Arihant-class subs.

According to the agency report, the Navy and the DRDO will first get a go-ahead for three of these vessels. The decision on building the next three will be taken after the completion of the first set. According to the officials, the project, besides boosting India's defence manufacturing capabilities, will also generate jobs in the defence sector.

India's elaborate submarine acquisition plan aims to build 24 submarines in a bid to boost its sub-surface capabilities in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and in the Arabian Sea.

0:28 "It wud provide a big boost to both the pvt and public sector..."
This is the prob with our version of the military industrial complex, and she has admitted this...her own words. She's admitting that the weapon system is for giving a boost to the industries rather than something that's needed for defence. Of course, one can argue, "our nbor is spending way more, we spend way less..."
