The Somewhat Disturbing World of Snaiad Explained | Speculative Biology

A long, long time ago (over a year?), I uploaded two videos covering CM Koseman's excellent project "Snaiad," a master work in speculative biology. I was never terribly happy with the quality of the audio, and I was still very new to doing my own voiceovers. I still have a ways to go, but I think I've improved a lot since then.

So, I thought it would be fun to revisit Snaiad, but I completely redid the audio and added several minutes' worth of new content. I hope you enjoy it!

Just imagine a scientist looking at one of the creatures and wondering "how do they reproduce?" Then right after seeing the same creature vomiting a live young

it's funny how snaiad is a whole fictional planet devoted to a d*** joke, and yet it's incredibly complex and engaging.

Snaiad feels like an entire planet of creatures in desperate need of a censor bar.

Y'know, I think it finally occurred to me the exact kind of "disturbing" that Snaiad falls into. Specifically, that shared by the subjects seen within the paintings of Hieronymous Bosch. In isolation, Snaiadi life is frankly a bit goofy looking. However, when taken in as a totality, it feels like some complete and utter breakdown of order as we understand it.

Can you imagine the first time we discover a planet with something analogous to animal life?
The biologists, zoologists and other natural scientists will make the kind of squeal you could hear from SPACE

The planet with the "rape turtles" is not going to be found anywhere on my bucket list.

The idea of keeping your head and your genitals protected together makes so much sense I’m confused why we haven’t done that

"The giant spikes along its first head, so defining for this species, serve a purpose completely unknown to scientists."
Translation: "The person that designed it just thought it looked cool."

I'm sorry, imagine being one of the first humans going up to one of those creatures and petting it's "first head" only to later find out you did not infact pet it's *HEAD*

I wasn't prepared to learn about something called "the rape turtle" today...

I like how the first settlers saw the worm/dick like appendages coming out of the animals chests and were like "yup, that's definitely a seccond head"

I have three great video suggestions for you.

Dhampirs; The Strange Case of the "boneless children", the ancient legends said that in the place of Bones they have a gelatinous substance and also have an instinctive hatred for vampires (pheromones perhaps?), they can be children of an uninfected with an infected, rare cases of women infected during pregnancy or just mutants. in legends, it was said that vampires still retained some of their humanity and ended up raping their wives.

Vrykolakas; Rare cases of double infection by a pair of viruses that alter the genetics of their host, legends mention that "like wolves they walked on all fours" and depending on the source it was said that they "returned" as direwolves/werewolves.

Exchange; half-demons whose only power is attractiveness (financial, sexual and or social), the legends said that succubi after "collecting" the semen would pass or become an incubus that there "places" in a woman, in this case I would say it would be a type of parasite similar to cuckoos.

What matters isn't just how different from our world's the local organisms are, but how edible they are.

this is the first group of animals that ive ever seen as truly alien. i see a lot of very analogous animals in speculative biology that serve as replacements for earth animals, but these creatures are hard to look at without trying to make them seem "normal"

This may sound odd, but I actually enjoy seeing speculative organisms that lack true eyes. It really adds to the alien factor in evolution and lifestyle for these kinds of projects.
