Total chaos at Thermals uncontrolled airport!! San Diego to Thermal/Palm Spring’s CA Full flight!

Take a seat in the cockpit of my new Cirrus Vision Jet! I will show you behind the scenes view of private jet life adventures. I have been a pilot for 24 years, I love aviation and have so much to share! I taught people to fly for 20 years so my perspective will always show a view that explains what is happening other than assume you know what is happening!

Oh yeah, I am also trying to become a professional golfer, I am one year into the journey. Will Dryden The Golfer channel will start to get golf content placed in it mid April 2024. Oh yeah I am 44 years old, so yes I am crazy...YOLO!

That was definitely a little busy. I was a little tense sitting in my home office here in Austin!

My new office is right there off of Aero and Ruffin, I look out my window and watch you guys land all day long, its crazy when i see two planes next to each other landing around the same time!

Nice flight. Fellow Brickyard pilot for over 20 years here. Loving the Vision jet. Looks extremely fun to fly. 🤙

Will, it was very cool in flight, a little lackluster on takeoff. It was 90° at 2500 MSL, 4 adults and 1, 900 lbs of fuel, by no means ideal.

Holy busy airspace Batman! Very cool communication and coordination coming in, and a lot of fun to watch, thanks man!

All that being said, what a sweet jet. Congrats on the purchase. Cirrus makes awesome products. Super jealous. Just want all the student pilots out there to get good with their comms, which I know is important to you as a CFI. Keep up the content Will! Looking forward to the videos. I'm also from SOCAL, so love seeing home!

Nice video. Always fun to see it from the pilot's side! From an ATC perspective, I noticed a few things (or re-wording of intentions) that may have gotten you what you were looking for a little quicker.
- When the Ground controller said that he had an IFR flight plan for you, you mentioned that you were just going to go VFR. This would have been an ideal time to say "you were going to go VFR but would still like flight following / radar services from SoCal. The moment you said "just going VFR", the controller tossed the flight plan and now SoCal has no information on you.
- This became more evident when you asked if the Tower controller wanted you to switch to departure and he hesitated as if to say didn't know you wanted to talk to SoCal". He asked where you were headed so if it had been coordinated ahead of time, the Tower might have been able to put something in the system for you to pop up on SoCal's scope with a discrete code and let them know where you were headed. With you already being airborne and almost clear of their Delta, it was too late for them to coordinate anything.
- The final thing I noticed was that when you did call up SoCal, it was a complete cold call. SoCal had no idea who you were or what you wanted and when they realized it was for flight following, you became their last priority. He wasn't necessarily looking for you but getting back to his IFR sequence and then typing in a some info to get you a Beacon Code.
**If pilot's file an IFR flight plan but then decide to go VFR, just let the first controller you talk to know that you have something in the system but would prefer to go VFR and they can simply input a quick command into the system and they'll treat you just like they always were going to but it'll simplify everything on the controllers end**

MOMAR is an intersection at the NE corner of the Salton Sea. It figures prominently in the LUCKI 1 arrival into SAN

This video took me down memory lane. Having soloed at KSEE. 1970 when a C-150 cost me $11.50 hr. Why heck. Back then you could
Solo for $100.00

Will, getting my first ride in out of HND this coming Monday. Took delivery of my SR22T G7 about 3 weeks ago and about ready to pull the trigger on the Vision Jet (1st Q 2025 delivery) if all goes well?
How were the aesthetics on your plane? Finish/paint etc? Any squawks? How long did you prepay on the concierge program?
Any other comments would be be helpful.
Beautiful aircraft!
Thanks, Mike

A few years ago Thermal Airport was a well kept secret. Not anymore. Every time I fly in it's about the same experience as in this video. Wondering when they will get a control tower. Perhaps after the first accident? I've experienced traffic landing on 17 and 35 and no one wants to give way. It's a real zoo. Pretty much try to avoid it now.

how do you like that plane compared to others?

You mind sharing how much it costs to operate one of these per year? I understand it’s largely variable due to usage, but just curious at ballpark figures

24:06 - now you use Callsign 225MV instead of “N225MV” or “vision jet 225MV”. That is also not a proper way to shorten your callsign

11:29 Why do you shorten your Callsign to just “MV”? You should be using 3 alpha/digits not 2… “5MV” would be appropriate just like SOCAL says to you. Also at 11:38 and 15:09
