I'm still in my 1st 100 hours and haven't made it over there yet but studying the map that was one of the first places I marked as a "safe-ish" must visit.

This area has such an abundance for sacks of fruits/vegetables that even in the later stages of the game, if you're nearby this place is amazing to come to for spoiled food. I looted some of the food warehouses here and couldn't carry all the rotten food I used for an insane amount of compost

On my Multiplyer Server, I went there with one of my friends.
We play on a high modded server and we found INSANE loot on just the parking places.
There where meds, food, car replacement parts, guns and even a "survivor car" (wich is a term we use for a upgraded car). This place is really good to check out and the zombies where totally fine.
The clothing store had a alarm and we though we are dead. But to be honest, there where just a few zombies that where easy to handle!
Check that place out, it's great

If you head northwest on the highway from the town you will find a small road stop area that has a camping store (which from my experience always has a big hiking bag) and gun store that does not require a sledgehammer to get in.

I used to live in that last house that you mention, best base ever. Except by the fact that there were a lot of zombies in the surrounding houses, even worse, they were sprinters and could smell your blood

Just above that final lokation with a well, there is another house even closer to a well. Amazing place and my current base. Will definitely work my way to that army place after I secure Maldraugh gas station

Tip for burglar players who spawn in Rosewood! You can head to the Doe Valley Military Surplus store on Day 1 or 2 for a great headstart (Vanilla Apocalypse settings)

What I do:

1. Bring food water and any melee weapon and head straight down south of Rosewood to the Drive-in Theater, ignoring ALL zombies that chase you.

2. Shout and kite all zombies inside into a ball. Never run. Just walk. Zombies are too slow. Lead zombies out of the theatre from where you came in and then lead them to the far south west corner of the theatre and then climb over the tall fence back into the parking lot.

3. Find a working vehicle with gas in it and hotwire it. Leave the place and go to the gas station across the street. Shout again to kite and ball up the horde and lead them to the South west corner of the Dine-in theatre and climb back in over the tall fence. Repeat process until no zombies are in the gas station.

4. Fill up your vehicle with gas and loot the store nearby for some cigarettes, drinks and food.

5. Head straight to the Military Surplus building in Doe Valley. Once you have parked in the Surplus store, leave the vehicle... Shout and kite zombies. Ball them up and then lose them by lapping around the auto-repair shop.

There's a YT channel called "Royale with Cheese" who demonstrated this exact method 9 months ago in the 3rd or 4th episode of his tutorial Let's Play of the game.

It still works to this day. It made surviving so much more easier.

Just south of the well is a nearly completely fenced in double warehouse which could also be a decent base location

Just a head up, the gravel path north of Army Surplus Store is the entrance to the best summer camp of Knox County : The Deer Lake Campsite.

It features a Deer-head-shaped lake, lots of camping cabins, big hall, shacks scattered all around the woods, and the Busy Beaver Ranger Station with some meds and guns. Scenery there is very beautiful, great to stay away form the Apocalypse and start a foraging live. On the North-West of the camp is a distant Hunter's Hut located near a pond with antique stove inside and a gun locker. A perfect hunter base to survive the winter and live a hermit !

Do note you'll need to bring a wood axe to clear your path, especially a month after the event starts.

Thank you for mentioning my favourite base location, the garage and nearby shed next to the farmhouse makes it so comfy to live in

I find it hilariously funny how when I first started I got chased out of Mauldraugh and had taken a car accidentally without direction all the way up to doe valley, I didn’t even realize I had made to a town until I arrived at the police station, sadly I was chased out again before I could find the army surplus store (it’s a way off from the police station and it was pitch black in the night when I went out for it)

Hitting that surplus store became a staple part of my playthroughs for a while lol

It's funny you just talked about this location. I was just there yesterday to loot the surplus store. Unfortunately I suffered a laceration that turned foul but my new character is hooked up for the months to come.

I have been there and looted that army surplus many times. Never knew it was called Doe Valley though, that's new. Gonna try that base with a well

More west there (up in simetric map) is the 'West Pitstop', an Isolated area bordering this Town and only with a gas station, 2 houses, a mechanic shop and a survival Gear shop. No One ever did a video on that. I suggest you to do It West

Today I was trying to get to riverside from riverwood for the first time. While travelling with the car I found this place by chance. I don't look at maps (internet project zomboid complete map), so I can explore it myself. I was riding my truck while listening to johnny cash and metallica on my cd player (immersive cd players mod). I found this place really interesting but I had to keep driving so I didn't explore it yet but I intend to do it in the future. This game is really huge.

You missed a point of interest. It's not as good as the Surplus store, but it is an interesting little cluster

Theres a small town North-Northeast from Rosewood, to the souttheast of the surplus store that has a teeny tiny police station, a book store, a doctors office, a "general store" which is mostly farming supplies but also includes a gun shop that doesn't require a sledge hammer to get into, and a nice hardware store. If it was any one of these things by themselves, it wouldn't be worth the trip, but all of it together is pretty nice.

If you are just single mindedly looking for guns and military stuff, the surplus store is a better trip, but you aren't just a slave to your simian impulses for violence, that little town serves as a nice little well rounded loot trip to give you a chance to find things you might not have found after looting all of Rosewood if you started there, or as a small supplement, with a chance at a couple unique guns if you are person who runs Britas and collects guns in the apocalypse and displays them instead of actually using them.

I love that this place is so close to Spoodleville.

I play with mod and start as nomad with RV and traveled to here with nothing, and leaving with tons of guns and ammos that need several military crates to store. That military supply store is a must loot place.
