Scientific evidence and clinical experience show that ketones can help our brains function better. That means ketogenic therapies can be medical treatments for mental illness, dementia, and more. Follow us at Metabolic Mind to learn more about ketosis for mental health.

Follow our channel for more information and education from Bret Scher, MD, FACC, including interviews with leading experts in Metabolic Psychiatry.

What damages mitos the most? Excess fats? Excess glucose? Toxins? PUFAs?

I’m just curious how it’s known that ketones are the mechanism of action for restoring brain health. I ask because I am aware of some who have achieved similar mental health improvements with a carnivore diet. I am also aware that in treating anorexia often getting the body to a higher weight than “normal” is what leads to the most complete recovery. If we know ketones are the mechanism of action would exogenous ketones help? Thank you for all you and Metabolic Mind are doing!!

I keep asking this question but does intermittent fasting has the same effect of the keto diet?

Tried an extended fast. Was hoping to do 7 days, but at 5 days my Ketones went up to 10.6 mmol/L. Glucose was at 66 mg/dl. my Keto Mojo gave me a warning (it had at anything above 8, but i was willing to push it till it hit 10). I started my fast for day 1 & 2 with MCT Oil & Butter Coffee, but went without any calories the rest of the time. Made sure to add Keto Chow Daily Minerals to be sure my electrolytes were stable, plus some Redmond Real Salt.

Any idea why my Ketones were so high? I wish i'd had blood tests to check if all was well otherwise to know if i could have pushed it anyway, but i didn't want to risk it. But damn that's a lot of fat metabolism if i'd kept going. I've not heard of anyone having results that high while fasting, so am hoping to hear any ideas about what's going on.

I'm assuming ketones would also be effective for treating ADHD rather than pills? A friend of mine is looking for alternatives and was told the only option for their child was pharmaceuticals.

If there are ketones in your urine, have you been doing it for too long and you risk ketoacidosis? Or is it normal to have the ketones in urine
