To clarify:
When i say you have to stand still with the laser cannon, i should've specified, i didnt mean you literally can't move, I meant you're stuck in firing mode and move very slow, which is a death trap vs hunters, pouncers, chargers, and all automatons.

They should add a mechanic where the Laser Cannon melts the armor or weakens it. Then, if you shoot that spot, it really Hurts the Bug/Bots.

I feel like they should keep the lasers base damage, but give it a multiplier depending on how hot it is, increasing its dps by 2x or even 3x if you keep it near full temperature. It would incentivize shooting, running, shooting, and adds another layer of skill cieling to an otherwise bland weapon.

PSA: The flamethrower kills chargers insanely quickly. You need to target a single leg and shoot at that. Optimally, you can down a charger in as little as 4 seconds or so with barely a third of your canister being spent.

I would love to see a Salamander heavy armor intoduced that gave fire immunity and extra grenades. Trade out for walking through fire being it being heavy armor which still sucks.

i think they need to get through their head that armor penetration is the primary metric of quality for support weapons given how much armor gets dumped on you in higher difficulties; the railgun found so much use specifically because it could deal with those targets. rather than nerf it, they should have brought other options to par with it.

Any continual laser weapon on helldivers 1 were cappable to penetrate heavy armor. Including the scythe. The pulse lasers had far more dps but didnt penetrated armor.
Using laser weapon (to skip resupply ) and using all red stratagems was a very viable and fun way to play on helldivers 1.

I don't know how you tested the Flamethrower, but if you aim for the legs its takes about 1/3 of a canister and about 3 seconds to 100-0 a charger with it. It kills them stupid fast now.
You can even see it in your recording, that their armor on the legs got broken, you just kept swinging the flame around and not focusing on a single point.

you might be using the flamer wrong vs chargers, if you focus the leg it takes 1/3 for the canister to solo a charger, it makes no sense since it's a flame throw BUT still focus the weak spot!

when i hear shoulder mounted laser cannon im thinking it should melt the armor or have a mechanic to weaken it for a time where normal weapons can pen it

There just needs to be more options other than stratagems to beat heavy armor chargers, bile titans etc

I think one of the mechanics they missed was breaking armor down for the enemies, more specifically the bugs. Having it chip off and not just perform a texture swap would be better for adding the mechanic of being able to literally break that piece off with damage done to it and exposing weak spots. In other words, hitting it enough with specific armor breaking ammo that deals slightly less base damage and tons of "armor breaking" potential rather than just blatant armor penetration. It distinguishes itself better and tells the user what it does clearly with visual feedback to back it's claim of "armor breaking". I guess you'd also have to revamp and make entire new system to calculate damage done through the base hit damage to said enemy at the armor plate and the amount of armor that's been broken off and the damage reduction of that type of armor calculated before the breaking of armor... etc. etc.. the point is it'd be a nice feature but I understand that it's a lot of work to implement something like that into the game. I wouldn't know of course I'd have to see source code and unless I'm under and NDA and contracted by the team I have no way of knowing lol. Jokes aside though, I do want that feature and I'm sure they have pre-planned some sort of road map but I'm sure maybe later down the line there's gonna be a revamp of the game mechanics to bring it all together at some point along that roadmap.

I have a idea for the laser cannon, what if, like the rail cannon theres a safe and unsafe mode.
With the laser cannon, you can penetrate heavy armor with unsafe mode + do more damage but it heats up 2x faster. if ure not careful and it overheats it'll explode in ure face.

they should of added a variant to the anti material rifle with AP rounds to pen high armor targets! i think it would be pretty cool

In HD1, most lasers suck except for Sickle and Trident. They do have a secondary laser type but that also suck as well. It require to stay still which is highly unlikely to be used on higher difficulty level.
