Amish Food. Is it REALLY that Good!?

I share some of my favorites and thoughts on why its so good.

As a truck driver- I've had such great times exploring restaurants. My dad was an Italian & could cook. So, I love food! I don't like chicken, but amish make it so good. It's a miracle i don't weigh 500 lbs

My ancestors were Mennonite ( Weaver). My 5x great grandfather Josiah fought in the civil war, which is what I believe started the separation, from that point it looks like that's when my family went English or started to.
And YES Amish, Mennonite and Pennsilfaanisch-Deitsch ( Pennsylvania dutch) food is the absolute best!!!😋
Thankfully the recipes were passed down and I still cook them! 😋❤

My wife and I were married in the Mennonite Church (some of my relatives were Brethren and others were Moravian in Kansas) . Such a rich history of faith, family, giving and food. In 1978 I bought More With Less cookbook and have used it for these many years raising our children and years of church suppers. The cover of the book has come off in 2 pieces, the back cover is dog eared and the pages are stained-signifying lots of use.

I tried Amish food. It's heavy and meant for people who work outside all day in all conditions. It's not meant for suburban folk, working from home and playing video games. It will make you fat in that case.

We went back to the Amish church where I grew up (New Order) a couple weeks ago for church. That was awesome, seeing my former classmates that I haven't seen for 8 years, hearing acapella hymns again... And then the food

The Amish have REAL, HOME GROWN FOOD. Something I go extreme about, to the point I will grind my own flour and make my own baking powder when I "grow up" (I already am, but you know what I mean).
That is something I love when we go visit my Amish grandparents. Mashed potatoes, corn, soup, cookies...

We just moved to a small amish area in Lancaster, PA. Best food ever! My husband loves all the home farm stands where Amish families sell their baked goods. It is a very special area. And it was like Covid never happened here. No one but us wore masks. They told us their state amish representative said it was a mandate, not a law, therefore they did not follow any of mandates placed on us.

I just spent a week in Ohio with the Amish. One of the best times of my life. We did it our healing seminar there. It was received beautifully. I ate this way for eight days. It was so good. I remember the Haystack dinner that was a lot of fun.

What makes most Amish food great is that it's homemade! Farm raised meats/vegetables that homemade with pride. The quality and the pride shines through in the taste!

Years ago when our four children were young I took them and my mom down to Shipshewanna for the stores, sale, and to tour an Amish farm. We ate at a restaurant that served family style Amish food..yum! Precious memories as my mom is no longer with us...we live in West Michigan.😊
