Love how the announcer at Oklahoma State said “30-40 years from now, people will say “you ever see Barry Sanders play?”” And here we are.

I met Barry at Pizza Hut 1 mile from my childhood home in 1996. He was with his family. My 2 friends & I were in awe. We lived in the suburbs of Detroit & were well aware of this man's brilliance & character. We grew up watching him. We asked for his autograph. He declined. Initially it shocked us. He then proceeded to sit with us for 10 minutes & reveal that spending time talking to us was more meaningful than his name written on some paper. To this day, I remember it vividly. If it was an autograph, I wouldn't. This is a very special person long before these highlight reels on the field.

I met this man in an airport. What a humble giant. He sat in coach and kept signing autographs and talking to folks. What a man.

2001, Barry walked into Best Buy in Pontiac, Michigan and I talked to him for 10 minutes about a computer he was looking at. He never said who he was, I never asked...but everyone was watching, pointing and whispering. He was very quiet and said thanks. I said hold on... He turned around and I said "we love you". He smiled, nodded, turned and walked away.

Later on the security manager told me if Barry wanted to take anything, he wouldn't even try to stop him. We all knew Barry was a legend. We all love Barry. The way he just handed off the football to the humility is humbling.

Love ya #20

When he could’ve had the rushing title his senior year an he told his coach to put the young kids in and play. That’s all you need to know about this man Mr. Sanders

Today's NFL could learn a few things from this man and his character.

As a young teen, Barry's retirement was heart breaking. He could have easily demolished the rushing record. The man was so humble none of that mattered.

As a Packers fan who cries that we didn't pick him when we had the chance, he's still by far my favorite runningback of all time.

Barry Sanders is not just the best running back in NFL history...he is quite possibly one of the best PEOPLE in NFL history. It was really hard to see him leave so early in his career, but it will never change my opinion of him; probably was best for his physical and mental health anyway.
Just wish we had more people like him in our country...I've watched many interviews and documentaries of him and am often left speechless.

Detroit ruined and broke his spirit and love for the game. I can't blame the man for leaving when he did. After competing at that level for so long and always losing it just wore on him. GOAT. Definition of class.

Some people would never understand what its like to have a father like Barry's father. My dad was tough but fair. A father with principles is worth more than a pound of gold; it's priceless.
