Rubinstein was not only a great pianist, but a fabulous raconteur, with a wicked sense of humour!

Very interesting!
When I compare the recordings of Planté and Saint-Saëns I must say that I prefer the latter! For example the improvised cadenza on "Africa" opus 89 is very impressive, his style is a bit similar to Raoul Pugno's. Of course this recording was made about 24 years earlier than Planté's Chopin recording (1928) where he was well past his prime... on the recording of Chopin's Etude opus 10 no. 7 he is shouting "Merde" after he finished with a wrong note!

Glenn Gould missed so much this "époque" that he also enjoyed talking while playing but with himself. XDD
