If you knew the general date it was thrown out, the dump records will show the general area that was being used at that time. It should also include the maximum depth being used. From there you just treat it like gold mining and use similar machinery to sift through all those cubic meters of landfill, for a hard drive. It's a MASSIVE job that might make you go completely insane, but not chasing that $350 million might also make you go insane. I know where his ashes are going when he dies....

We all have missed opportunities in life. Some bigger than others. I can look at several decisions that would have made me a millionaire but I didn't take the opportunities. Better to just learn from the past and look for new opportunities in the future.

What makes him think that he would've held his bitcoins the whole time if he had not lost his hard drive? He might have sold when they reached $5 million and that's it.
The only reason they are worth that much is that he didn't have the headache of deciding whether to hold or sell every day of those 8 years
