I say a major strategy is to keep a eye out for controllers with good sticks locally you can test yourself and if you are trying to get a specific color controller, have that good stick controller ready for part swapping the stick in. I am after a ice blue n64 controller to match my ice blue console I own and recently found a green controller locally with a great stick that I am keeping as my backup plan if I end up with a ice blue controller that is not that great.

Oh, you can never be sure, I just got a really shitty Hori from a reputable Japanese store, the controllers works, but the angles on it are so bad that I would prefer to go back to my x360 controller I used on Emu, I bought the Hori to make it my main controller, but I can use it only for throws. Worst $100 in my life (Well, I had worse). And then I got a cheap N64 grey controller that did not look very well in pictures, and the stick is OG and really good! Great video!

When I buy controllers, I buy GameCube style joysticks made for the N64 off of Amazon. It’s so comfy, and easier to use.

Great vid- I have an idea for a topic. How much of an issue do you believe the limited amount of n64’s, controllers, and n64 cartridges in the world will have on speed running in the future? Surely one day there won’t be any more consoles to go around, thus making it not possible for a speed runner to replace their own once it breaks. Do you think this issue is in the near future? How do you think it’ll affect games like sm64 who’s main leaderboards deal with original hardware?

Have any experience with kitsch bent64 replacement stick parts? I used there bowls in a few controllers, stick got tighter but now feels “gummy” in some notches

If you don't mind answering, are steelstick64s actually good, like, comparable to original sticks? I fear one day good Nintendo 64 controllers may disappear (and it'll probably happen some day).

Edit: another specific question: I think Bowser throws in Super Mario 64 may damage the stick over time, since you have to rotate the stick really fast if you want to execute them well. Is using "fake" controllers for Bowser throws allowed in SM64 speedruns for the sake of preserving good original sticks?

I just got my n64 official controller, and the stick feels extremely stiff and doesn't turn much. Did I get a bad one? Or do I need to break it in or something.
