Huge E39 M5 fan. Brilliant car. However, a Chevy SS in its final iteration with a manual gearbox comes close and is a good alternative for enthusiasts without the budget for the TLC an E39 M5 requires.

These BMW's are not the best, they have driver aids that fool you into thinking you're better than you are, the car takes over and that's why the earlier M Cars with no driver aids just a tuned suspension with plenty of grunt and a mechanical LSD are the real best Motorsports
