Early us history: We have carefully draw these counties to make them align with geography and population centers to make them as administratively efficient as possible
Later us history: Ah screw this, SQUARES!

My county hasn’t changed shape since 1811, that’s crazy

Edit: Williamson County, Tennessee. (It’s dark blue and right in the middle)

Fun Fact: Texas has more counties than any other state in the union and by a wide margin with 254. Georgia is second with 159 and California only has 58.

This is because local government is very important in Texas and the state legislature made it law that everyone needed to be no more than just one days horse ride from the county court house.

And it’s still the law to this day

My county: King County, WA. Largest in population and bluest in Washington, borders untouched since the mid 19th century, namesake changed a while back to someone cooler and more historically memorable even though he lived all the way in Georgia

While the US has over 4000 counties, my country's got only 19. But some of those 19 are 1000 years old.

When you see it, you won't be able to unsee it.

Clark County, Nevada (Las Vegas area) looks exactly like a shrunken-down version of the State of Nevada.
